486665 2006-09-22 11:52:00 JamesKan you’re confused about the Messenger service which www.grc.com covers

What Baldy wants to do is remove/disable Windows Messenger (which is in turn MSN messenger, but it comes with windows)

How do I delete (or disable) Windows Messenger

It comes on automatically on my puter (Windows XP) and as use MSN Explorer that has MSN Messenger version 7.5, want to get rid of the early version ASAP

To do that go to your Control Panel > Add or Remove programs > add/remove Windows components > then at the bottom of the list you should be able to un tick "windows messenger"

see screen shot: imagef1.net.nz

I Hope this helps :), if you cant do that let me know what version of XP you have.

486668 2006-09-22 13:41:00 Open windows messenger.

Tools -> Options -> main

Uncheck "load automatically at startup" and "Allow windows messenger to run in background"

close it. it will go away

486670 2006-09-22 23:30:00 I used to refer to Messenger as Windows Messenger. But below is the info from within Windows' Services:

Messenger

Transmits net send and Alerter service messages between clients and servers. This service is not related to Windows Messenger.
