487230 2006-09-25 21:54:00 Much better plans than what they have now. Im currently on the explorer plan which is $50 a month. The go large plan which is unlimited is the same price as the explorer plan, thats better than my current one im on.
Be interesting to see what speed i will get when they increase it, currently i get 3.2mbps so hopefully i should be nearer 7.5mbps next month.

The current "3.5mbps" plans have the modem/routers line rate limited to 4288kbps. If you're not getting all of that then you won't get any more when limiting comes off.

487232 2006-09-25 22:07:00 But i do get 4288kbps just had a look in the router settings. Hitech (9024)
487233 2006-09-25 22:11:00 I moved to the 3.5 plan from 2mb, however the speed never changed really and mostly is arounf 1.8mb.
I'm hoping full speed accross the exchanges will release better speeds to my line. If it dont, then i guess I'll have to settle for unlimited data!

487234 2006-09-25 22:20:00 Woo Hoo :D

I get to keep my max upload and download speeds, get an extra GB of download and save $30 per month. Not before time I might add, I have paid a small fortune to have the old full speed Jetstream, though it has been worth it.

Once again, it is interesting to see that Telecom says that "your connection speed will be as fast as your phone line allows." No mention of being slowed down by contention ratios at the exchanges or heavy web traffic etc.

With a statement that bold, and completely unqualified, I can see arguments arising if speeds during heavy traffic periods slow dow. If you get faster speeds in off-peak periods then clearly your line is not an issue, so I'm not sure how they are going to deal with this. It could cause them untold grief unless they have done some major upgrades of exchanges etc in preparation.

Time will tell.

Cheers

487235 2006-09-25 22:23:00 I am the same as you SM, my speed has not increase, but then it has not decreased either, the modem reports the 2144kbps... I am going to get a better modem than the stupid D-Link anyway (I know it is not the modems fault) Telecom say I am too far from the exchange and the cable attenuates too much at this distance... so unless they plan on redoing the wiring, I will not see any speed increase :annoyed:

EDIT: Just read the plans and I like the look of unlimited!!! :D but what are these two conditions? Heh reading them they do not encorage P2P but then use the size of music, movies and CDs as data examples... and say people using P2P isn't a problem during off peak times... what is Telecom on?

487236 2006-09-25 22:32:00 What does the exchange look like, I have a chrome topped clyinder at my front gate?
I use a Linksys wireless router, not the brick they gave me. I have to stay with Telecom in order to use they Radius servers for remote admin.
Better than dial-up anyway, had to laugh, at a friends last night looking for manual for Briggs and Stratton motors, unbelievably slow, what a nightmare trying to get info off the web.....LOL

487237 2006-09-25 23:06:00 YAY!
I'm going on unlimited 'cos I don't use P2P so I shouldn't have a problem.
But, because on the 3.5mbit I only get around 2.3mbit will that mean that when they make it as fast as possible it won't go any faster?
