487202 2006-09-25 11:02:00 operating system of the new and old systems

dailup or asdl

The very first thing I would do is to compare ALL settings of the two PCs relavant to the method of connection to the internet

487203 2006-09-25 11:43:00 Old is 98SE,new is XP pro,on dialup, all settings (that I know about) are the same.
How can the same machine show such different behaviour at two locations-even the same cables...?:badpc:

487204 2006-09-25 12:07:00 When you say two locations. is that different jackpoints in the same house or at different houses. Safari (3993)
487205 2006-09-25 20:04:00 The new connected at once from the vendors line in Mt.Roskill, not mine in Henderson.
Havn't tried it in another jack at home.
KOL ran out of suggestions after half-an-hour.
Thanks,Glenn.

487206 2006-09-25 20:42:00 What error message and error number do you get when connecting direct from the dialup connection with all programs closed.
Go to Start/Connect to and select your ISP connection

Assuming you can hear the modem dialing and the handshaking noise add a string to the modem
Go to Control panels/Phone and modems
Click on Modem at the top and then Properties at the bottom
Select the Advanced tab
In the Extra Initialization box type in +MS=V90 and ok all the way out.
