2006-09-24 11:42:00 | Hi there, I have been using utorrent for some time without problems. Until then lately I have installed some new windows updates and upgraded utorrent to a newer version. Now evertime I open utorrent, it starts to download, but after like 1 minute, the computer really slows down. AVG loses some functionality and my firewall (Kerio Personal) shuts down because there are not enough resources. Going into task manager which takes a couple of minutes (using control-alt-delete) to load if Im stuck in a slow phase, utorrent hardly uses any CPU or memory. I thought I should remove utorrent and reinstall it. I also removed all traces I could find of utorrent to make sure it was infact gone. I did that but then its still the same problem. I tried another program, shareaza, but it does exactly the same thing. It slows the computer down after like one minute. What is happening? Is it to do with one of the windows updates? The updates I installed that day were: KBs 920872, 915865, 920214, 921398, 919007, 922582, and 920685. Cheers,

As James said, have you done the usual maintanance stuff? (Virus scan, adware scan, Defrag etc etc) |

2006-09-26 05:37:00 | I have looked into this problem a bit more closely. Utorrent takes up about 10-20% of the cpu power, and the memory it uses ranges from 10,000k and 30,000k. Thats still less than firefox which runs smoothly. While running utorrent, it uses almost 2gb of pagefile. I used to have this set to a custom size, but then tried to set it so that my system will determine the best size. It still creates a huge 2gb pagefile regardless. I have scanned my computer for virus (AVG free) and yes it is updated. I have also searched for other crap like spyware etc using ewido antispyware and spybot search and destroy. Have defragmented my hard drive and cleaned all unneccessary files (the recycle bin was huge!!). Nothing seems to make any difference. I have also tried setting the priority of utorrent to 'low'. I had a look at Microsoft support pages for those KB###### files but nothing seems to be there. Any other ideas?

2006-09-26 08:04:00 | Hmmm, very strange... I am currently running utorrent and have been since 6 days ago (non stop) and still no problems, mine is using a tad under 9Mb, CPU usage is between 1 and 5% and total PF isw 1.8Gb, but I have a lot resource hogging programs running... Hmm, the only other idea I have is potentially the most durastic one of them all... REINSTALL!!! :D I do it often, always works... unless it is hardware... Allthough you could try and uninstall those updates one at a time if possible and see if it was them...

2006-09-26 09:39:00 | Have you been downloading lots of files? I mean my P4 1.6Ghz processor cannot handle that and only 512MB memory can be very laggy. What's your memory level while using uTorrent? High? If not it might be some trojans on your computer. I mean I have been in this situation before and finally found some serious trojan on my computer.

2006-09-27 04:57:00 | Just download your linux distros off ftps. And stop pirating. Who says Im pirating? Im downloading some e-books for gods sake! Its only 6mb. I have not been downloading a lot of software lately. Its puzzling me... I might have a look at the trojan idea... see if I can try an online scanner.
