486897 2006-09-24 02:20:00 So XP is on the 2nd hdd too then??

Why its coming up with 2 O/s'es when u boot up?

The only other way u could delete those partitions, is if u boot from the XP cd, and let it boot into the XP install setup screen and delete them .

Or use something like PartitionMagic (which isnt free tho) from within Windows .

BUT then the hdd would have to appear in Windows for this to happen .

There is no setup screen (there's a selection screen if u press F8), during the booting of Windows, its in the BIOS, or when u boot from the XP CD to install Windows (if this is the setup / menu screen, you're talking about) .

What hdd have you configured it to boot from in the BIOS??

The 1st or 2nd? Maybe its booting from the 2nd why it keeps on bringing up that error? Change it to the other hdd in the BIOS, see if it makes any diff .

486898 2006-09-24 02:39:00 No, scratch what i just said, i just got to the BIOS screen. but that doesnt matter anymore. No, the 2nd hardrive is blank. there is no operating system on it. what i meant was when i said 2 OS is i mean on boot up i get to choose between Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft windows. im not sure what microsoft windows is, i never tried it. i dont know wat it is or where it came from, i dont even know if its an OS. Im going to try it now though... Motokid600 (11183)
486899 2006-09-24 02:56:00 ok, i just treid booting from the Windows XP cd and...simply, it cant read the hdd. im not sure why, but is it possible that it has something to do with the fact the hdd may be locked or unlocked? im not sure weather its locked or unlocked, but does it matter? im thinking it may be unlocked, but im not sure... You have to format the hdd, thats the only way. Apart from using Partitionmagic, which as posted before isnt free.

But if the XP setup cant see it, (thats if u booted from the cd) and went into the XP install setup screen, and the 2nd hdd didnt appear) , it must be stuffed or something. If its under warranty (the 2nd hdd), take it back and get it replaced.

486902 2006-09-24 04:22:00 what do u mean stuffed? and why is it i can see it in devise manager? Motokid600 (11183)
486903 2006-09-24 04:27:00 Well as u said its locked .

It must be locked for a reason, for what reason I dont know .

Try putting it on IDE primary master (disconnect the original hdd for now) and chuck the xp cd in, boot from the cd and try formatting it . (remember to press a key, when it says so on the bottom of the screen) .

See what happens . If it formats probably, connect it back as secondary slave . Change the bootdisk back to the original hdd and see if XP detects it properly then .

I would check and see whether any of the pins on the back of the 2nd hdd are bent . Why it isnt working properly .

486904 2006-09-24 04:49:00 "Auto-Detecting Pri Master..IDE hard Disk
Auto-Detecting Pri Slave...IDE hard disk
Auto-Detecting Sec Slave...ATAPI CD-ROM ( that the correct one )"

sorry to interfere but have you tried making the added drive be Sec Master.
This means you will have to change the IDE cable and the jumper from what you have now.
