487451 2006-09-26 03:53:00 Hi,
I have just built a new Asus P5B Deluxe computer, but I am having a hard time to configure the e-Sata hot-plug function to recognise my Stardom iTank-302 enclosure with Seagate 250G Sata drive .
It will only recognise the connection after I have restarted the computer . It worked fine with USB connection .
The HDD has been partitioned and formatted .

My O/S is XP home with SP2
Asus P5B Deluxe board with latest Bios (0614)
iTank-302 enclosure with sata & usb 2 . 0 combo to sata interface .

Can any one help please!
Thank you .

487452 2006-09-26 04:44:00 Not familiar with the e-sata itank external hard drives?, does this plug into a USB port on the Mobo?.

I would try a different usb port, check bios for legacy usb support also.

487453 2006-09-26 08:11:00 Unfortunately I am unable to help, I actually have the same problem . . . I have just decided to use it through USB as I can't be bothered troubleshooting :p

I just thought I would set SM straight . . . e-SATA stands for extrenal serial ATA, it has a different connection to SATA but very similar and allows the HDD to use the full capability of SATA .

The dirve enclosure usually comes with a cable to plug into the mobo and then screw into a PCI slot thus making it external

There is no need to check the USB for anything as this works, what I would do is tyr another SATA header on the mobo, or even plug the drive direct to the mobo temporarily

487454 2006-09-26 11:53:00 Hi David,
But Asus P5B Deluxe motherboard already has a e-sata port, located at the back of I/O and it suppose to provide hot-plug function for the external devices with e-sata output.
I am sure someone out there may have gone through this and will share their experience.
Please help!
Thanks.

487455 2006-09-26 21:01:00 Oh I see, I saw one of them a while ago . . .

What exactly doe the HDD do when you plug it in? Does it spin up?

You could try installing the latest nVidia drivers . . .

487456 2006-09-27 10:00:00 Hi,
The HDD did not spin up when I connected into e-sats port at the I/O. but it does spin after restart the computer.
How can I make the e-sata connection work on Asus P5B board's e-sata port?
Thank you.

487457 2006-09-27 17:39:00 Have you checked the Bios settings, you may need to enable the e-sata within the bios.
I have an Asus motherboard (not the P5B) and I needed to enable the setting to get my external sata drive working. Once set the boot up menu comes up with the e-sata drive seperately which lets me know it is loading.

The setting on mine was under the IDE Configuration menu

Hope this helps

487458 2006-09-27 20:55:00 Hi Davoid,
I have been in IDE Configuration menu, and had tried to change the Configura SATA as[ IDE] setting to Configure SATA as [AHCI] but the computer keep restarting so I changed back to [IDE].
Please tell me what sort of setting you had changed to make the e-Sata drive work.
Thank you.

487459 2006-09-28 03:07:00 Hello chinadoll,

Here are my bios settings with the heading first and then the setting.

Configure SATA As ---- Standard IDE
Onboard IDE operate mode ---- Enhanced mode
Enhanced mode support on ---- S-ATA + P-ATA

I had a similar problem until I had set the Enhanced mode support option. Once these setting are set you should get another boot up item (after initial boot) saying something about the hard drive (external) with about a 10 second countdown (but you can press a key to skip the countdown).
It should now show up in windows.

I am not a tech person, just an amateur, so some of the terms above may not be correct.

Hope this helps.

487460 2006-09-28 05:56:00 Hi Davoid,
I will try this later on and will let you know how I get on.
By the way, what kind of enclosure and sata hdd are you using?
Thank you.

P.S. I only have one Seagate 320g sata 2 hdd as "C" connected on Sata 1 head
