488185 2006-10-01 08:17:00 Me again Speedy
It struck me that I had probably identified the wrong login name to poptray. To give an example I had put my first and second name (something like, but not quite -- Brad Pitt), whereas I should have put (something like but not quite) brad_angelina. Corrected that - but still getting error message.

The error message reads ---

I am on Xtra as ISP and have identified that (ie "xtra.co.nz") as the Server. The bit about AVG has been picked up by poptray itself.

Misty

PS - as I have to be out of bed in the morning at 4.55am I must away to my bed so sorry if I suddenly disappear off the forum.

The name / login u should be putting in under options / accounts, SHOULD be the same username / password, you're using to get onto the net, (not the username / password u use to login into windows, if this is what you're doing), whether you're on dialup or broadband.

Pop server should be pop.ihug.co.nz or pop.xtra.co.nz (or whatever ISP you're with), (dont put the " 's in).

Or whatever info you've got in OE / or Outlook / whatever for checking email, put exactly the same info in Poptray.

Hi Speedy, you have just confirmed what I have done to correct, so that is good.

I have corrected and put the pop in front so that it now reads

pop.xtra.co.nz
before I only had put xtra.co.nz

However I sent myself a message and when it came back it went straight to Outlook Express. The error message that poptray now gives is

Poptray connect error
Socket error #11001. Host not found

Change pop.xtra.co.nz to pop3.xtra.co.nz for pop server. That should fix that error.

If u send yourself an email now, and select check all from Poptray in the taskbar, if u see a 1, in the taskbar its working.

Sorry Speedy - I do continue trying ! I am not working tomorrow so will look at everything from step 1, there is something I am stuffing up. Don't want to waste any more of your time (at this stage). Very much appreciate your help to date. Will try again tomorrow.

488189 2006-10-10 07:00:00 Hi Speedy
It is working fine now thanks. The items move so fast through the program that I have only seen them twice in the program, the second time today. Have told poptray to delete :angry
Norway Consulting
National Australia
Commonwealth Bank
National Bank
Israeli Brokerage
VhAGRA
VvAGRA
... and others

For example
Norway Consulting I received
8 x emails on 02.10.2006
6 x emails on 03.10.2006
4 x emails on 04.10.2006.
.. but since I asked Poptray to delete I have received none at all !! :D

Israeli Brokerage I received
1 x email on 04.10.2006
7 x email on 05.10.2006
7 x email on 06.10.2006.
2 x email on 07.10.2006.
..... but since asked Poptray to delete I have received none at all !! :D

This is a good start. You cannot hope to get rid of all but you sure can make an impact.
thanks

488190 2006-10-10 07:16:00 Good to hear !

Add them to the blacklist FIRST, before u delete them.

Then go to options / white/blacklist and replace the front of the spam with *@ and click on save.

Otherwise, they'll come back.

If u want I can email a list of what I have blacklisted. All u have to do, is copy and paste them into options/blacklist. And click on save.

I had put them in rules with each rule having a part of the headers which kept repeating each day. That has worked really well. If any further problems from those then I will use the blacklist as well.

I have put all of them into my options/blacklist just as you have said. Looking forward to the results !

488192 2006-10-11 04:34:00 I use Mailwasher to eliminate this rubbish.
Its quite aggravating, many times MW freezes, so I open OE instead of MW and have to download 30 emails, 20 are rubbish.
It will never end AAARRRRGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH

PopTray seems to be working extra well .

Early days I guess, but only had one Spam message this morning .

Just wish it had a button that would let me detonate a nuclear warhead in their offices . :D
