488438 2006-10-02 07:01:00 I have 3 CM LCD screens, and while they now go just fine, one failed after 3 weeks and had to be returned .

Although it was bought from a "local PC store" (not a retail chain), I was horrified to learn that they would not handle the warranty claim .

I had to deal with the Auckland distributors, who spoke poor or no english, I had to pack it up and they arranged a courier .

It was returned about 10 days later, repaired, but the power pack would not work .

The distributor would not send me another until they had received the faulty one, which would be another few days without a screen, but I became "very insistent", remained polite but refused to accept that level of service .

That elicited a new adapter without waiting for the old one to be returned (they never did pickup the old one) .

The moral of the story is if buying CM monitors, check if the computer store will provide some backup service . Although I dealt with a "reputable" store, they made it clear that I would just be waiting longer as the screen would need to be sent on by them just dding to the wait . They had no screens of that size that could loan .

But again, the monitors are excellent in performance . The dealer service is at the low end of poor however .

Have you actually got any hands on experience to back up your rants? So far you havent provided anything, just got angry at people because theyve suggested the brand might be ok .

Many budget brands have their place in the market providing a viable alternative to the more expensive options . Not everyone can afford to always buy top of the line products . Granted there are also some really craphouse brands, but one shouldnt judge purely based on price .

Before DFI became all the rage with overclockers they had a reputation for producing some crap products, if everyone based their opinions on DFIs track record we would have missed out on some awesome motherboards .

There are alot of people who are happy to pay a lower price and receive **** service, this doesnt mean the product is crap .

If you'd brought 10 Chi Mei LCD screen and had several fail then it would be a fair assumption that they ant the greatest . But to say they're crap because you personally dont like the distributor or the brand is ignorant and ridiculous .

488440 2006-10-03 12:20:00 Cheers for the support Pete :).

to be honest, i don't play games on my Chi Mei 19" Widesrcreen, ive since switched back to my Phillips 17" CRT. 8ms reponse time doesnt quite cut the mustard for my gaming (im pretty perdantic about that, as i travel around the island attending gaming comps)

although, the 19" Widescreen is freakishly good, if not, Pant busting for Movies and Images, i use it for my design work, as the colours and vibrance are fantasmic.

488441 2006-10-03 12:35:00 Here's one thing buying products from China:
Cheap= Crappy Quality Product
Expensive= Quality product.
Simple? Yes, it is.
Chi Mei? I don't really know that brand well, but I prefer international company products made in China like ViewSonic, it is not bad and it is always cost more than Chi Mei because of the quality.
Quality quality quality why do they always cost so high? Because the material and cost of production is always expensive. Same as Lenovo computer vs. Great Wall computers. The quality difference is obvious.
Yo mate, you can try ASUS if you and it is not bad too.

488442 2006-10-03 23:56:00 Try a brand with an onsite 3 yr warranty, such as philips. Most monitors now seem to have at least a 3 year warranty
ChiMai is not a household name brand, and their build quality and design doesn't express quality. I also didn't think that colour quality and veiwing angles looked that good. I would recommend getting one with true 16.7 million colours, and not one of the cheaper ones that advertise 16.2 million colours as they use dithering to produce the colours.
