| 488175 | 2006-09-30 02:25:00 | Thats the good thing about Poptray. Because it picks up the email without you having to open OE/ whatever, you dont see images (or anything else). You dont even have to open / OE / Outlook etc to see whats in it. It shows the amount of emails you've received in the taskbar. All u see is where its from, when it checks for email. If u dont know who the sender is u can right mouse on the sender, then add it to the blacklist, then delete it, or if its from someone u know, u can add it to the whitelist. You can do much the same in your ISP Webmail if you don't want to download messages you don't want. |

| 488177 | 2006-10-01 06:39:00 | It doesnt. But poptray can use wildcards ie: (*@isp). If spam comes up, just add it to the blacklist after it checks for email (it can check email every 5,10 mins etc, whatever u set it at). Then go to options white/blacklist, delete the front of the spam and replace it with *@ (dont delete the isp/end part of the spam u added. Like if the spam is xxxxx@google.com u replace the front part with *@ so it'll be *@google.com. Then click on save. And put one rule in. Name Spam. Account/all accounts. Needed / Any row. And subject contains [SPAM]. And tick delete from server. And keep enabled ticked. Hi Speedy I have just downloaded poptray and it seems that the mail has to go through this program so that you can enter any restrictions/prohibitions for any particular spam received. I had kept 19 messages received today and yesterday from two companies being "Norway Consulting Group" (10) and "Commonwealth Bank" (9), in Outlook Express. Never mind -- it will be tomorrow at the lastest that I get more from them as they are the two most persistent culprits. I can then enter the wild cards which should be relatively easy because they use fairly similar characteristics each time. Also I do not get much mail from Norway usually !!! (Unless that blonde wants to contact me again -- or was she Swedish ??!!!!!!). ;) :p Will feedback on my success or otherwise Misty  |

Correct thats what it does, once u enter your email login/pw in poptray's options . And when u set poptray to check for email every few mins / whatever u set it to . It'll pick up email, (you can see this by looking at its icon in the taskbar), which saves u opening OE / Outlook / whatever email client you're using . That way, you can select what goes to the blacklist / whitelist . Or what gets permanently blacklisted . (with the *@) . It'll also pick up Gmail, (or any other email addy, besides Hotmail if u signed up for this recently (unless u paid for it),) if you've re-directed your Gmail email to your normal ISP email addy . |

Well I have got part of the way there, Speedy, because I now have located the defaults and accounts etc way over on the right of the program, which is unusual . Some messages have come through to Outlook Express but I got an error message saying there is some connection problem with poptray . The defaults specify "C:\Program files\Messages\msimn . exe" but I have changed this to "D:\Messages\msimn . exe" but am not sure about this last bit "msimn" . Presumably it is okay but am not sure . Misty  |

Misty  Err, the path for OE should be C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn . exe msimn . exe is the exe file for OE . I dont know how u got D:\Messages\msimn . exe . Or C:\Program files\Messages\msimn . exe |

Or C:\Program files\Messages\msimn . exe Well that part's okay then because I wrote down the original default path from memory . The path with D:\Messages is correct because that is where my messages go now that I have a partitioned hard drive . As you say the end part of msimn . exe is correct . This means that whatever the error is, it is not in that area ! I still have to locate where the error is ! :stare: Misty |

If D:\Messages is where u copy emails to, (not the folder OE is in), the default folder should be C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn . exe . Leave it as C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn . exe . Then click on test . If it works then leave the default progrram as is . Take a snapshot of that error, and post it here (http://www . imagef1 . net . nz/) |

| 488183 | 2006-10-01 08:09:00 | Me again Speedy It struck me that I had probably identified the wrong login name to poptray. To give an example I had put my first and second name (something like, but not quite -- Brad Pitt), whereas I should have put (something like but not quite) brad_angelina. Corrected that - but still getting error message. The error message reads --- Poptray connect error AVG POP3 Proxy Server : cannot connect to the mail server I am on Xtra as ISP and have identified that (ie "xtra.co.nz") as the Server. The bit about AVG has been picked up by poptray itself. Misty  PS - as I have to be out of bed in the morning at 4.55am I must away to my bed so sorry if I suddenly disappear off the forum. |
