Opinions would be appreciated Just wondering why you would consider a noname brand like Chimei I have never heard of them, and there isn't much difference in price between the different brands at ascent.co.nz . Personally I always go for a known brand name, even if it costs more, as build quality is better IMHO. Actually the new viewsonic looks to be a lot cheaper than the Chimei |

| 488430 | 2006-10-01 09:17:00 | I recently bought a 19" widewscreen AOC monitor. Main reason was that it came with a 3 year on site Dead pixel warranty. VERY nice too. 8ms, DVI/D-SUB, $403 | NZLcyclist (329) | ||

Chi-Mei build a majority of Sony monitors, as you would know, Sony dont manafacture their own monitors, they just contract it out. the only issue i have with my Chi Mei is that its not the greatest for games, as the 8ms reponse is a little ghosty. Also, the Chi-Mei's have a 3 year warranty. |

| 488434 | 2006-10-02 01:52:00 | I was looking to get the chimei 22" WS for $799 www.chimei.com.tw However the Chi Mei is still a 6-bit LCD, so that means color reproduction will be shoddy at best. LCDs already aren't the best at displaying darker tones and when the 6-bit ones dither, that just makes the effect 2x worse because they have to show 2-3x the amount of colors to display one tone. |

| 488436 | 2006-10-02 05:03:00 | Jams just ignore pctek shes getting all worked up about budget brands as per usual. A quick google shows that Chi Mei at some stage may have produced some LCD screens for Sony, but Sony has recently purchased (www.sony.net) Chi Mei's LCD manufactuering facilities. I wouldnt buy a Chi Mei based on the fact that they manufactuer some Sony screens, Sony isnt exactly as well respected as it use to be either. |
