488490 2006-10-01 22:55:00 Hi

My friend gave me this "Philips Brilliance 107P" Flat screen monitor,

I am on Ubuntu Linux and I just left my computer for a while and it must have gone on standby but it wouldn't turn back on.

I have tried it on another plug not connected to my PC and it doesn't work.

Maybe the fuse is blown?

It seemed to work fine.

Any ideas?

Does Linux have a standby mode?
And what plug?? You can't test a monitor unless it is connected to a PC - how else would it display anything?
Switch off the Linux PC, connect the monitor back up and try it again.

488492 2006-10-02 01:54:00 Well it has hibernate (but I didn't select that). The screen just fades off after a while.

I can test to see if power is going in... Which it appears it isn't.

Is it possible for Linux to have put the computer in a mode where the screen is off (like when it fades off) and now it is stuck in that mode?

488493 2006-10-02 02:55:00 Did your friend give you the Monitor Electronic User's Manual CD ?. This advises "If you have VESA's DPMS compliance display card fitted or software installed in your PC the monitor can automatically reduce power consumption when not in use" This is obviously what is happening but the Manual states "If an input from a keyboard, mouse or other input device is detected the monitor will automatically wake up" which is not happening. Noted in another guide that mention is made of using Windows but not Linux. Suggest try monitor on a PC using Windows and if it wakes up is Linux your problem?. FrankS (257)
488494 2006-10-09 22:05:00 Ah. Well I just bought another monitor! I wasn't notified of your response.

Surely if it was unplugged (and opened up) and then turned back on, the settings would go back to normal...

Sigh, Well I might just check it on a Winxp computer.

488495 2006-10-09 23:10:00 Music man, most if not all LCD panels will go into standby mode if no input signal is detected. SolMiester (139)
488496 2006-10-10 02:49:00 For info go to

www.consumer.philips.com/monitors/philips-crt-monitors.html

enter Brilliance 107P in Search Box and there are 739 entries for manuals etc. To get the right manual there other numbers etc after the 107P. One that I looked at stated that "Light Frame will work with true Windows-based programs". Light Frame apparently is installed using the CD that comes with the monitor.

488497 2006-10-10 03:17:00 It doesn't even turn on, let alone go into standby...

So I'm guessing I can't run this monitor well on Ubuntu? I can't install Light Frame as I am not on Windows.

Thanks for your help
