I hope this will help you mate. The graphics card is pretty good for new games. The rest the specs are all quite good for gaming. From financial dude point of view, you don't need a high end gamer PC to satisfy your gaming. The PC is good enough. Real gamers PC will cost around 6 grand. Which is 3X of the pc for normal gaming PC. What about depreciation? Remember people always changed their desktop every 4 years. And this means you'll lose $500 per annum, even you use it or not. | 488870 | 2006-10-03 10:31:00 | What do you mean by "3rd gen"? http://www.pricespy.co.nz/ would be a good place to start, but know that the lowest price is not always the best price. Customer service/warranty service are not factored on that site, so just be careful who you buy from. For $2000 I would reccomend something along the lines of Core Duo 2, motherboard that supports core duo 2, pci express, sata2, gigabit lan. 2GB ram, 7600GT or better, 300gb sata-2 hard drive, power supply of at least 450W, would reccomend enermax power supplies, a case with atleast 2x120mm fan mounts, then you would probably be looking to buy a 17" LCD screen. Take those reccomendations lightly as you may find something completely different to your liking. Use review sights heavily, just google model numbers with review stuck on the end and it should return your results. www.tomshardware.com has a good graphics card, cpu and hard drive comparison section. You can directly compared to different models with certain tasks being performed, so as to get an average feeling for their performance compared to each other. I spent $1800 last august on a computer without monitor, and am still able to play games coming out now easily, though my computer is slightly overclocked. Busting big budget just to rebust is each year as new stuff comes out doesnt make sense to me |

Have to wait to first quarter of 2007 for final decision. Getting it from China can save you heaps + second to top spec PC as well for home users. And now? I just upgrading my old PC for around NZ$400, and it is ready for games. lol. I can't configure my own because I can't really predict the technology, and I don't have fixed budget because I can spill out more for better PC if I want. |

| 488876 | 2006-10-03 12:36:00 | my advice would be to go for a 7900GT over a 7600GT. but this depends entirely on how much money you may have, and how strong your will power is when november rolls around, as that is when the G80 (nVidia DX10 8000 Series) Cards will be released (so ses numerous news sites) crappy thing is that apparently only Vista will support DX10, and at the moment, my non existant pet dog has a better chance of crapping out fairy dust than Microsoft have of releasing Vista any time soon. |
