489278 2006-10-05 04:14:00 It tells us: "There was a problem sending the command to the program" Has anyone come accross this one? It's only a problem when opening 'Office' files, all other files we can open from anywhere on the computer but lately all Office files can only be opened from inside the program itself ie we can not open 'Office' files from 'Start/My Documents', 'Explorer' etc. We've re-installed 'Office' and all the latest updates, checked for viruses, spyware etc (nothing bad found) but still the problem persists!

Any suggestions on how to fix this would be appreciated :)

489279 2006-10-05 04:16:00 This is caused by a setting in Zone Alarm. In Zone Alarm program settings, allowing Windows Explorer to access the internet (or the Trusted Zone alone) solves the problem. You don't need to allow Windows Explorer act as Server, though.

Er...hang on. I have Windows Explorer disallowed from the net in ZA. And I can open Office docs from anywhere.

489281 2006-10-05 05:59:00 OK. I will defer to saying "this could be caused by Zone Alarm", obviously (as not everone has the problem) other issues may come into play.

But I usually trust info from a MVP source as being good to suggest.

Thanks for that.

489283 2006-10-05 07:36:00 Thanks Godfather, Zone Alarm does appear to be the problem. I disabled it and could open the files I couldn't before. My problem now is to work why Zone Alarm has just atarted to do this after we've been using for so long as I don't recall 'not allowing access' to anything recently. One suggestion is to restore Zone Alarm to it's original defaults - do you think this may be my best option?
Again many thanks for your help :)

489284 2006-10-05 09:42:00 Sorry, I would only use Zone Alarm (or Nortons Internet Security) if by back was to the wall and a gun was pointed at my head or other bodily parts. So I cannot help you on the settings. godfather (25)

What would you recommend instead?

Have you updated Zonealarm recently?
I had trouble with a couple of things after the latest update and went back to the earlier version.

Explain why you would want or even need an update for a firewall? Its a firewall, not an AV. ANd yes I know the newer ones claim to do Av too but you're nuts if you trust that.

My ZA ver4 is still happily performing well and not causing problems with anything else.
