| 489220 | 2006-10-04 21:56:00 | Hi, welcome to PressF1! Is this the password for Windows or a bootup/hard drive password? If it's a windows password what version of Windows is it? |

| 489222 | 2006-10-04 22:39:00 | For BIOS password clearance you must take the laptop back to the service agent, with proof of ownership. There is no other way. If its a HDD password a new HDD will also be required in addition to the above. This is the case with almost every laptop maker now, to deter theft. |

The easiest way is by using the chntpw utility from a Linux live CD but you also need a version with captive NTFS utilities for most Windows desktops. If this is a BIOS password, which is unlikely as most users don't have them, you can clear out the BIOS memory on many motherboards by attaching a jumper to the correct place when you boot it. You would need to find the documentation for your motherboard which probably has instructions. |
