489010 2006-10-04 00:23:00 Upon hunting down my Xp install disc today after a terrible bout of spyware i found that the product key was missing. I have tryed looking on the sides of mu pc ect but to no avail.
So i was wondering how can you reclaim a product key legally? Can you ring MS and get a new one or do you have to buy a new copy of xp?

TK

EDIT: Oops sorry wrong forum (mod plz move).

489013 2006-10-04 02:13:00 I done this yesterday all you do is opt for telephone activation and call them and tell them the first 6 numbers of the ID given and they give you a code to activate. trinsic (6945)

489015 2006-10-04 03:26:00 The XP product key is often on a sticker attached to the computer. Check there before you ring MS and have to repeat a really long series of digits then enter another really long series of digits that they repeat to you. TGoddard (7263)

489017 2006-10-04 09:08:00 In Windows XP, the product key stored in DigitalProductID Registry key. But, it is no longer available as clear text in registry. You need a software to view the key:

Agree with SJ on this. I run Belarc maybe every month or 2 and then email a copy to gmail for safe keeping.
