488986 2006-10-03 23:04:00 Have reinstalled XP Home on new hard drive. Graphics OK, but spent hours trying to get onboard audio up & running again. I have an HP Pavilion 522a PC. Mainboard details are:

Mainboard
Manufacturer : Intel Corporation
MP Support : 1 Processor(s)
MPS Version : 1.40
Model : NBGV - Northwood/Brookdale-G Validation Board
Version : None
Serial Number : None

On-board Devices
ADI1886 : Sound Adapter (Disabled)

System Memory Controller
Location : Mainboard
Error Correction Capability : None
Number of Memory Slots : 2
Maximum Installable Memory : 512MB
DIMM 0 - J5G3 : DIMM Synchronous DDR-SDRAM 256MB/64
DIMM 1 - J5G2 : Empty

Chipset 1
Model : Trigem Computer Inc 82845G/GL/GV Brookdale Host-Hub Interface Bridge (A1-step)
Bus(es) : ISA X-Bus PCI IMB PCMCIA USB i2c/SMBus
Front Side Bus Speed : 4x 100MHz (400MHz data rate)
Maximum FSB Speed / Max Memory Speed : 4x 133MHz / 2x 166MHz
Width : 64-bit
IO Queue Depth : 8 request(s)

Found nothing that seemed relevant to the above on either Intel or HP sites maybe due to discontinued support. Looked at lots of Press F1 posts but didn't see one that addressed my particular mainboard/chipset etc.

Very grateful if anyone could point me in the right direction here. Not sure just what I need & where to find it. Cheers.

488987 2006-10-03 23:08:00 Well, Ya cant load drivers onto a device that is disabled, Go into device manager, right click the sucker and select enable, does it then ask for drivers?

Do you have a set of drivers?

488988 2006-10-03 23:15:00 Drivers for your rig

h10025.www1.hp.com

Though in an interesting twist the page has no listing for an audio driver, So I would presume she relies on an installed XP driver, Craptastic idea if the driver install goes belly up.

Anyhow, I would enable the device, then right click her again and select remove, then reboot her and see what happens.

488989 2006-10-03 23:18:00 Thanks.Yep it's enabled but driver search gets nowhere. What driver do I look for? sunhawk (7788)

488991 2006-10-03 23:28:00 Have removed Multimedia Audio Controller if that's what you mean. Get "Found new hardware" on reboot but only returns to big yellow query thing in "other devices" slot in device manager. sunhawk (7788)
488992 2006-10-03 23:36:00 run aida32 or everest home edition to find out the 'true' hardware you have and then download the drivers for it........ drcspy (146)
488993 2006-10-04 02:48:00 Finally found a driver compatible with my Intel mainboard and Trigem chipset. HP used the combo in their old Pavilion line about 4 years ago. Anyone with a similar rig to mine (above) may find it worth a download from www.driverguide.com. It's an Avance AC97 Audio Driver (alc20x.zip). Cheers and thanks. sunhawk (7788)
