489425 2006-10-08 01:11:00 motorbyclist - People like that just... *thinks of non offending words :p* me off, there is no need for it, you get the setup that you can afford and will do what you want (not including boasting) I mean sure, I boast a little about my PC but that is completely different, I do it to my friends in a teasing way, they know that and give me... stuff :p... back, it is all in fun, not to the point where our friendship is reduced sort of thing, I value friends more than a PC and that is how it should be people over material items... but some people don't know that :badpc: The_End_Of_Reality (334)
489426 2006-10-08 02:16:00 him and another friend also beleive norton is THE antivirus and all others are completely inneffective. their loss personally, but still a pain at lans when norton kicks in deciding it isnt quite using enough ram

good on you for waiting for prices to come down before buying the graphics, but why then buy the 7300 in the first place for only a marginal performace increase? (which i can not be bothered checking up on to dispute;))

From the information gathered here (www.ngohq.com), the 7300GT seems better than a 6600GT. this does not mean that a plain 7300 would be great, though, considering anything with GT is designated the better card.

if you really want a 7300, I say get a GT.
Of course a 7600 or higher would be much better...

As for norton... It is interesting to note that NOD32 on this computer is currently using 12MB of ram while norton on my other is using just 5MB. but neither of those are a heck of a lot.

Norton is not the best antivirus, I have had my norton miss a couple of things in the past, but most Antivirus will miss something at some point or another. however I also find NOD32 to be very good (but do prefer norton's interface somewhat), and for a free AV I also like avast!. I do however find AVG rather annoying and weird to use.

489427 2006-10-08 04:14:00 u can run 4 gigs of ram on that board... Motokid600 (11183)
489428 2006-10-08 08:07:00 u can run 4 gigs of ram on that board...

It'll make a nice ornament. Won't get much use though.

Two gigs will do anything you are likely to want.

of course a 7300gt is better than 6600gt, but i'm sure the 7300 vanilla was worse (if only slightly) than a 6600gt. i may be confused with the 7300gs. i was using specs on card including gpu speed, memory clock etc etc whatever. however, i'll take your word for it.

i hear nod32 is good, my own experience with norton, coupled with what i hear on these forums leads me to beleive that it is a resource hog. furthermore, my comment about memory usage was a joke, just incase you didnt notice :p
my point was though, that fanatical brand loyalty can be somewhat frustrating. people who religiously use a brand and refuse to even consider there is a possibility of a superior product are just... argghhhh...

489430 2006-10-09 11:33:00 im not trying to be an a$$ to my friends at all, its a friendly compotition. and Gmail is way better than yahoo that guys a dumbass. bigmahlman (11255)
489431 2006-10-09 14:00:00 WARNING: RANT FOLLOWS

i know someone EXACTLY like that, there's 5 nerds in my group including him. we all gradually caught up to him, and as soon as nerd number 4 was building a better rig he got his parents to pay for him to build a slightly better one. he then looks at our pcs and disseds the fps etc when they are only slightly lower than ours. also, ever since he got an lcd monitor (parents paid for, back in 2002) he's claimed crt give him headaches and refuses to use them. had he even a job to try and pay it wouldnt be so bad, but he dusnt even pay for is own petrol and again refuses to drive anything that isnt a citroen (but thats another story)

back to his rig, his parents werent going to pay for the new one, so he tried to sell off their one (to be replaced by his old one once the new one was ready) on TM. he had $1 reserve and started a new account to bail him out if it didnt reach the amount he wanted, being twice that of the value of the pc. eventually he got his self employed mum to use her business to get him a new rig and swapped it for his old one. talk about desperate. also, for the short while he was on the bottom rung he would just make excuses about how good for its age his rig was while we all waited for it to load new maps etc at lans, or we got a bit of revenge because he couldnt run certain games at max.

he also refuses to accept gmail is NOT crap, and himself will only use yahoo (go figure). him and another friend also beleive norton is THE antivirus and all others are completely inneffective. their loss personally, but still a pain at lans when norton kicks in deciding it isnt quite using enough ram

only useful comment: with 3GB of ram you should be able to run norton... would be cheaper to just not buy the extra sticks though
