489503 2006-10-06 09:32:00 Cant u read? I said it is a 478 pin mobo.

I mean, if I'm given a CPU, not new in the box with all the specs, but just an old one , then how do I identify what socket set of MB to use?

Thanks for being so patient with me, Speedy.

It will be stamped on the top somewhere usually what code and speed it is, you can then look up say Intel's website for the socket type if the markings offer no clue.

489506 2006-10-06 17:04:00 Look on the CPU socket on the mobo (on the side, where its got the triangle (which tells u which way to put the CPU in).

It should say something like mPGA 478B or similar. Which means it takes a 478 pin CPU.

This applies to ALL mobos. Whether its 478/754/Socket A/939 etc. The kind of CPU the mobo can take is printed on the CPU socket on the mobo.

You'll notice Dr. Maybe its just the P4S8x-x that lags.

When u boot up, when u run programs, anything really.

There's a delay of like 10 secs or so, before it actually decides to do something.

I noticed it straight away, when this P4S8x-x was running.

A mobo wouldn't have what speed it can go up to.

Thats what the manual is for. That tells u what the speed the mobo goes up to.

hmm..........not on MY system .....for example I just opened up MsWord and it took maybe two seconds to be up on screen fully ready to use....

489508 2006-10-06 17:19:00 Oh well, the P4S8x-x maybe the only mobo thats got this prob then .

There maybe others, but I havent tried any others, besides the P4P800 and P4P8x (The ones I'm using at the mo), which are Intel based .

They dont have the same prob .

Good to see your making assumptions about chipsets even though youve only used one motherboard based on that particular chipset ;)
