489462 2006-10-06 07:54:00 Billy, Billy, Billy.....We can assume that Pctek knows exactly what to touch and what not to in a monitor,

Well actually Metla I don't fix monitors.
Had a friend of husbands who was a TV repairman, he once managed to shock himself through the air and across the room after he had discharged it.
So it put me off a bit.

And as CRTs are a dime a dozen on TM now, its hardly worth trying..............

LCDs may be another matter but I haven't really met too many dead or faulty ones, just a few dead pixels....

And Beetle, so long as you aren't poking about in the innards of the PSU, you can't electrocute yourself from the insides of a PC. :)

489464 2006-10-06 10:01:00 With a lot of modern equipment, more questions follow: "Do you know how to replace the back", and then, "Do you know how to replace the back so the unit will work again?". Finally, "How much is a new one?"

Hmm, I was starting to think that was pulling apart a Laserjet printer to replace some parts.. I was feverishly pouring over the service manual at the same time. Phew it all worked when I put it back together .. and only one screw left over (and it was in a damn annoying spot so I gave up on trying to put in back in). The High Voltage Power Supply sounds like a spot to avoid with prying screwdrivers ;)

Yeah CRTs don't get fixed these days .. just throw them in the trash.
