2006-10-04 09:39:00 | Can you all not read? He is trying to rip straight to iTunes. He used WMP once (as a test, I presume) Fishy, WMP can rip directly to MP3, if that is any help. Thankyou for reading! Yes it was as a test to see if ripping in Windows Media Player did the same thing as in itunes. Which it didn't... To clarify, i'm trying to use itunes to rip cd's to MP3's but the sound stuffs up. I used Windows Media Player ONCE to check if it was an itunes problem or a computer problem. The songs were fine using Windows Media Player. It's not just the first song I play on my ipod, or the last song I rip with itunes, it's all the songs off the cd's I rip. Roddy_boy how do I rip straight to MP3 in Windows Media Player? I can't seem to find out how? | 489099 | 2006-10-05 03:01:00 | gidday a mate of mine had a similar problem with itunes sounding bad. He suggested checking the settings in quicktime (installed automatically when itunes installed on pc), specifically the output setting needs to be set at 24bit (it was at 8). Check this and let us know how you get on (personally i dont belive my friend so would be interested in the outcome). Here is a link to his blog regarding the itunes problem row1.info

2006-10-05 04:08:00 | iTunes use a generic driver from a company called GEAR. You can search your system to find that driver/entry. If you have a driver related issue, Google "GEAR" and you can download the latest verion of their driver. I don't much use iTunes, but this solved some issues-don't know what they were-for a friend | georgeks (9122) | |
2006-10-05 04:23:00 | macron1 mine was already set to 24 but thanks for the suggestion. And georgeks I updated the drivers of the "GEAR" thing but still no luck. I only just thought of this but could it be because I have a crappy CD-ROM drive that only reads cd's and can only do it at a max of 8x? Would that cause the sound problem?

2006-10-05 04:56:00 | Can you all not read? He is trying to rip straight to iTunes. He used WMP once (as a test, I presume) We can read OK RB: I used windows media player to get the songs off once and the songs are fine but it's a pain in the buttocks cos ipods only play MP3 and ACC or AAC i don't remember. So cd's rip in WMA format then i have to import them in itunes and convert them to MP3. Which i normally wouldn't care about but my computer is such a piece of !$#@ it takes about 3 and a half mins to rip ONE SONG off the cd and then another 4mins to convert ONE FILE to MP3 We also know a plural when we see it, and there were so many plurals in this post that it was reasonable to assume that he was ripping to WMA then converting, I mean, who would bother to complain about the time one test CD took to convert? If iTunes does the job well on a PIII 550, something is screwed in his setup, his software or his hardware. Personally, I am now singularly disinterested in which or what so you can sort it for him if you like. Cheers Billy 8-{) :xmouth:

2006-10-05 09:46:00 | So Billy are you happy with the results you have been getting with itunes? Yes I am thanks Plod. The way I have it set up, all I have to do is line up the stack of CD's (plural) open iTunes, insert the first CD (singular) then get on with my work. When the CD tray opens, I take out the first CD, insert the next then close the tray. Repeat the foregoing as many times as there are CD's. All CD's are copied flawlessly, even copies, or the dogs that I couldn't copy with Cdex or any of the others I tried, and all tracks are complete as well. Cdex and others were inclined to get sick of it all after a few minutes and cut tracks short. That might have been my ancient computer though, a PIII550 is not exactly bleeding edge anymore. Such flawless performance rather leads me to forgive iTunes for its larger than normal footprint; when everything else works like a dream, you can overlook trivial things like that. That's what I keep telling Mrs T anyway, when she starts complaining about my couple of minor flaws that seem to get on her nerves from time to time. Cheers Billy 8-{)

I only just thought of this but could it be because I have a crappy CD-ROM drive that only reads cd's and can only do it at a max of 8x? Would that cause the sound problem? If the CD-ROM is not reading discs properly, then it might cause the output files to skip. I encountered this when I used CDex with an older DVD-ROM drive that didn't like scratched discs. A lot of the MP3s skipped or had noise on them. I re-ripped using a brand-new DVD writer, and the problems disappeared. I use iTunes for all my music now, but one thing I miss about CDex (which iTunes doesn't have) is that it would tell you if there were errors in the ripping of CDs (jitters, I think CDex called it). Using the new DVD writer, even scratched discs rip without errors. |
