489493 2006-10-06 04:02:00 This old PC's Motherboard (P4S333-VM) is fried. Looking for a replacement. It is using Intel 1.7 GH/256/488 CPU - this is what printed on the CPU. Socket 478 ?

Preferrably an ASUS MB. I know this is a old mb but recommendations will be appreciated. Budget: <$150.00

Cheers

489494 2006-10-06 04:12:00 Theyre pretty hard to find now.

I was pretty lucky to replace this old crap SIS based mobo I had.

Lucky a shop down the road, had a cheap ASUS mobo for $70.

You can have this P4S8x-x. The only thing is it lags. But works.

489495 2006-10-06 04:43:00 I don't know much about this stuff, but if it's old and not available to buy retail anymore, have a look on TradeMe. You might just get lucky. Fishy (10540)

489497 2006-10-06 07:43:00 Thanks guys.

Not necessarily to be the same model MB, as long as it supports the CPU with onboard sound and video.

489498 2006-10-06 07:45:00 Thanks guys .

Not necessarily to be the same model MB, as long as it supports the CPU with onboard sound and video .

The P4s8x-x is a 478 pin mobo . It has onboard sound but no onboard video .

You have to install a PCI or AGP videocard .

489499 2006-10-06 08:01:00 Thanks, Speedy, but I do prefer a MB with onboard sound and graphic - not prepared to spend tooooo much on an old piece of thingy.

How about this: ASUS P4S800-MX(SiS661FX)? Does it support my CPU?

BTW, how do I know (or find out) whether it supports this CPU or not?

Cheers

489500 2006-10-06 08:12:00 It supports 478 pin (www.asus.com)

I would stay away from SIS mobos. They're crap.

As I said in my previous post, SIS chipset motherboards lag, and you'll notice it.

Only thing with onboard video is if u want it for games, forget it. They havent got enough ram, which is why PCI or AGP is better.

489501 2006-10-06 09:03:00 How do I identify the CPU's socket? The identification number printed on it doesn't tell what socket it is.

How do I identify what socket it is?
