| 489392 | 2006-10-05 22:28:00 | I have an problem whereby trying to open an Excel file in Explorer results in the Excel application opening, but not the file. Trying to open an Excel file from a desktop shortcut results in an error "Windows cannot find 'C:\Documents and Settings\...[filename].xls. etc...'. However I can open the very same file successfully by running Excel and then selecting File > Open > browse/select file. I have tried unstalling/reinstalling MS Office to no avail. Any suggestions would be appreciated. |

Check the path details and name of file are correct. Do other shortcuts to excel files work from the desktop or other areas of the computer? |

My Computer |Tools | Folder Options | File Type... scroll until you see xls then select it then click the Advanced button. Next in the actions section click on Open then the Edit button and check the DDE option if it isnt ticked. The settings should be... DDE Message: [open("%1")] Application: Excel Topic: system hth |
