489270 2006-10-05 00:45:00 Have seen this question before and not taken too much notice of the answers, so please excuse me asking again.

My comp is getting a bit ancient and never having done a backup before, believe it's time I did.
Have bought a large exterior hard drive and would like to back up to it, with the simplest but most efficient way possible.
Any ideas? Ron...

Using XPpro 1gig ram..

489271 2006-10-05 03:59:00 Ron, the easiest way is just to drag/copy the folders/files you want to save to the new hard drive. Neil McC (178)
489272 2006-10-05 05:32:00 But depending on what u drop and drag, it may or may not work.

I doubt if u drop and drag programs that have been installed already, they'll work, they'll have to be reinstalled.

Or use some kind of backup program.

Depends on what you want to back up and if you are prepared to spend some money for the security of knowing you can reinstore everything.

If you are prepared to spend just under NZ$100 - then you can buy Acronis True Image. This will give you an image of your whole hard drive(s) and you can reinstore your data, programs, settings, registry etc.

Is this what you have in mind ? ( I guess you only have a hazy idea !!)

Yes, from what I have read on their forums the 2003 version of Ghost seems to have been the best performer of Ghost.
