490129 2006-10-08 09:19:00 Hi all,
My control panel has been rather hard to use lately...
It streams black and white lines as I scroll down (or up).
Please see the pics at the below address (a picture says a thousand words afterall!)

I've virus scanned (AVG & Trend Micro), i've search bot'ted and destroyed, adaware'd and a few others...spoken to Compaq on the help line (I think they thought I was seeing things).

I'm normally fairly careful with what I download, who uses the computer and such. I really don't want to re-format it (i've assignments coming out of my ears and don't have time atm).

If anyone can shed any light on this, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

From memory this problem is caused by a poorly written/ non standard registry key (I think)

try searching your computer for this file appwiz.cpl and then double click on it

and see what happens

Had two copies of that file (one in ...system32 and other .../system32/dllcache).

Opened them both up and still yeilded the same problem!

Maybe a reformat is the way to go, not for a couple of months yet though!

Thanks for all of your replies, much appreciated!

490136 2006-10-08 21:36:00 Have a look at this thread
www.windowsbbs.com

you could try using the "add remove pro" just to get a listing as apparently it can remove entrys from the windows addremove screen (you may be able to remove the entry that causes the problem)

aha heres the link I was looking for

490138 2006-10-10 00:14:00 So was there a resolution to this, did the suggestions work or did you find another way to solve the problem, (just noticed wifes comp has this problem so would like to know if it worked for a Pressf1 member) Morgenmuffel (187)
