2006-10-08 09:11:00 | Trying to install a Spongebob Squarepants game (for my 5 yr old daughter, I hasten to add) but it comes up with this error. Any ideas? Running W98SE

2006-10-09 20:55:00 | Thanks for the help guys. I ran the ...check.exe file and it says that ASPI is fully functional on the system. It still isn't working though I note, however, that all the files are in the adaptec folder so I guess that I will have to copy over the relevant files to the system folder? Can I confirm how I do that? CTRL+C on the file or CTRL and drop and drag the file into the new folder? Many thanks

There should be in that afterdawn site a tool that checks your ASPI that you seem to have found but also one that will download a newer one or install others, it should also be able to let you select which layer you want. Can't remember the tool but it should be in that site. Cheers, KK |

2006-10-10 20:40:00 | Thanks Kame I don't think that the CD is the problem. I read the info that was posted by the others, downloaded the updated drivers from adaptec, but the problem wasn't fixed. I am guessing that the files need to be copied to the system folder, but I just want confirmation that a. my thinking is correct, and b. my way of doing the copying is correct. Many thanks from El Thicko.

2006-10-12 13:29:00 | sometimes the installer dosn't always install things correctly . it may say it s fine but it still dosn't work . often notice more with cd ripping programs . there is a prog by the name of forceaspi which installs it correctly . its a tad strange a game would need aspi . aspi is for cd disk access . are you sure of the error message? can you play cd's in it useing digital rather than analog? can you rip cd's? also check DMA is enabled for cd drive .

2006-10-12 20:45:00 | Hi Tweak'e It is a CDROM only and this is the only cd that we have problems with. I have printed out the page shown in your post, and I was thinking that I would try copying the applicable files, using the procedure above to the SYSTEM folder and see how that goes. Is my thinking logical???? Many thanks

2006-10-12 21:11:00 | you can copy files but generally speaking thats not where the problem lies. the comman bug is registry entries for the files. | tweak'e (69) | |
