489744 2006-10-07 04:42:00 my PC has had problems starting a few months ago, random re-boots.
over the last month it has become more common, 3 or more re-boots a week.
the stop messages pointed to bad RAM so i went in to swap out the RAM.

when i had the case open i spotted that about 5 capacitors near the CPU had a crud on them that has leeked out.

this is an older athlon 1.6 system , my solution is to upgrade to a new system.

problem is i dont have the $$ for this right now.
I cant go with out a working system too much.

what can I do to reduce the system crashes??
I just need a few more months out of the system.

489745 2006-10-07 05:09:00 Cant do much if theyre leaking already.

If its Socket A theyre pretty cheap just replace the mobo and put everything else back on it.

Or replace the leaking capacitors.

489748 2006-10-07 05:38:00 Good question. You would have to do a search in google or yahoo, to find out who still stocks Socket A.

Looks like this site (www.pp.co.nz) sells them, but not much of them left.

Looks like this mobo (www.pp.co.nz) is the only one thats ticked

Ah u found the same site I did.
