489660 2006-10-06 20:49:00 Hi
I have installed XP professional on top of my XP home edition on y PC.
While instlling the existing internet connection is OK, it checked the microsoft website, and, after the installation completed, I wanted to connect the internet to update windows, and the error is "phone line is busy, try later",
I have checked everything and have removed the old dialup connection and set up a new dialup connection, but the same problem. Please help me with your expertise. Thanks in advance.

489664 2006-10-06 22:24:00 The doubling posting has come about because I merged the duplicate thread in the Chat section into this thread.

Have you checked you have plugged the phone line into the correct port on the back of the computer? Some fax/phone modems have two sockets that would fit a phone line plug, so make sure it is in the line in socket.

Yes, I have checked the same alos, but the same problem. While installing the XP professional, once it was connected for verification with microsoft website and after the final installation, the error comes.

I have reistalled again, the same problem, "phone line is busy".
Thanks for your advise.

well doh! if its noisy then there is no dail tone so it can't ring out. turn off whatever is useing the phone line.

if its the pc your trying to get connect to the net, check for dailers and also get the proper drivers for the modem as sometimes MS ones do werid things like not turning off the modem even tho windows says its turned off.
