2006-10-06 19:41:00 | I'm having problems updating the signatures on Ad-Aware since yesterday - it says it can't read the signature file. Reinstalled it (fresh d/l), same prob. Anybody else got the same prob? sarel

2006-10-06 22:46:00 | Join the club, lots of people having problems with the 05.10.2006 issue, eventually got it after about 8 tries. Note Ad Aware have issued another one 06.10.2006, suggest try that, in my case it downloaded and installed no problem. | FrankS (257) | |

2006-10-07 20:06:00 | When I click on: [Check for Updates > Performing Web Updates Now > Connect] ... the download status bar immediately goes to 5% with a message that the download is complete. Have done this multiple times with the same result. Tried to download a new Adaware program (not just the update files) from LavaSoft but was redirected to CNET Download.com with a May 2005 program. So this is another addition to my "Adaware Stinks" Folder. Spybot has updated files about every week, whereas Adaware only seems to update every 6 to 12 months: how effective can Adaware spyware sweeps be using old detection files?

2006-10-08 01:25:00 | Hi, u could try downloading the defs file from major geeks website www.majorgeeks.com Mandy - Thanks, that did it. :) pctek - Well, I thought my Adaware 6.0 was the most recent version but I looked closer and saw that the most recent update files were two years old. So I downloaded a more recent Adaware from TuCows, added the ref file from Major Geeks, and all is fine now. In fact, numerous junk was found by Adaware that my other 3 programs did not find (I also use ZA Security Suite, Spinach, and Spybot). I take back my negative comments about Adaware - unless Adaware dumped some of the spyware at installation (some antispyware programs do this so users are impressed by what is found). BTW, my old Adaware did not auto-update even though I had that option selected.

2006-10-08 01:29:00 | Ah. Yes you needed the new version, the old one won't update as its not supported now. AdAware is trustworthy, not one of the dodgy ones, however I find Spybot better - AdAware most likely just found a lot of cookies and stuff, it usually does...
