| 489613 | 2006-10-06 19:22:00 | Hello All, On my Win2K with AC97 onboard audio, I suddenly lost the audio portion of videos and also couldn't play music CDs. I had an error msg saying "Windows cannot find .exe" and that .exe was on C:\ ............... very helpful I'm sure. I found that all was OK in Device Mgr. but later AC97 dis- appeared from DM and so did most of the volume controls ! Tried re-installing drivers but no go. Installed a different audio card (Genius) in a PCI slot which installed OK and app- eared in Device Mgr. All volume controls now OK but I still have the same rubbish about Windows cannot find .exe. The video portion of CDs/DVDs works well but audio is a no-no. Any suggestions please ................. can't find an exact match to these symptoms on the web. Thanks Boswell |

Yes, also as stated above I have not only re-installed drivers, but have also installed a whole new card with driver. Yes I have looked for malware and nothing shows up with a good arsenal of SOB detectors. Boswell |

| 489620 | 2006-10-09 04:28:00 | Are there any *.exe's other than the soundcard's driver necessary for audio production. Presume API's are built into the soundcard's drivers etc. Any ideas as to what might be the prefix of the mysterious .exe ? ? Boswell |
