| 490107 | 2006-10-12 21:29:00 | Thanks very much, Tweak'e I am thinking of upgrading the OS to w2000- would that then fix the registry? I'll be loading over the top of 98SE. |

| 490110 | 2006-10-12 22:25:00 | 256 is enough. as long as cpu etc is ok....i almost forgot....check that you can get w2k drivers for everything. | tweak'e (69) | ||
| 490111 | 2006-10-13 07:20:00 | "also check DMA is enabled for cd drive" Where do I do this? |
Chris Randal (521) | ||
| 490112 | 2006-10-13 07:35:00 | You can get ASPI drivers from the Adaptec site (www.adaptec.com) The ASPI drivers have NOTHING to do, with whether DMA is enabled or not. With most burning programs for 98 it'll complain about the ASPI drivers. In XP it doesnt, as XP doesnt need ASPI drivers. The DMA option is in the BIOS under the hdd or cd entry/entries. If its on DMA (something) its fine. Or check device manager under the hdd/cd somewhere, to see whether its on DMA or PIO. |

I can't think of anything else that would need to work below the filesystem layer. i would bet $$$ that your right on that. however my other thought was that the game read music direct off the cd ie like media player useing digital extraction instead of analog output. however some old cd roms don't really support it and DMA being diabled (under device manger) can sometimes make progs do werid things when tring to extract audio. |
