| 489819 | 2006-10-07 23:45:00 | Starting Feb 05, MS began changing the XP OEM activation for the top 20 world-wide PC makers "golden key" OEM versions. Once they institute the policy change, you will need to phone in for the key. That is probably what you have experienced, the change in the policy has become effective for your OEM copy I suspect. This was well publicised www.betanews.com |

| 489821 | 2006-10-08 02:55:00 | I typed in the COA key, located on the side of my dads dell computer. I have a little icon in my notification area, saying: "11 days left for activation" I click on that then it says you can activate windows over the internet or telephone, I pick internet then I type in the key (COA) Hope that clears anything up. | Mike.H (145) | ||

If by some fluke it had worked, you would have locked out your Dad's PC after the next Windows update, so I would imagine that would not have been welcomed. |

Using that reasoning every time that Dell is reloaded for some reason you have to go and buy another copy of Window$. If the OEM sticker is on the side of the PC it should activate OK. |
