489901 2006-10-07 19:02:00 This one has been asked before, but cannot find it with Search.

My wifey's pc boots up with the normal boot sequence, A: C:, but then it keeps looking at the A:, sounds like a "machine gun" for a long spell.

BIOS shows boot sequence A,C.

Boot Up Floppy Seek: Enabled

Should the latter be Disabled?

Thanks for any help.

489903 2006-10-07 20:46:00 pctek thanks for that, but nope, rebooted and the "gattling gun" is still there.

489904 2006-10-07 21:28:00 the noise is simply the bios looking for a disk in the floppy drive. check you don't have a disk in it.

simply change the boot order so c drive is first.

489907 2006-10-13 23:59:00 Change the boot disk to c and disable floppy seek.

And it has something to do with it trying to find a disk that isnt in the floppy.

Put a floppy in then and see if it makes that noise. It wont.

489908 2006-10-14 03:54:00 Speedy, we will try changing to C: then before the post boot noise starts again, will slot in a blank floppy.

Could always ship it off to "Manhatten", where they are still edgy!!, we have stopped ducking for cover now.

Thanks agian all,

Boot sequence now: C, A.

A Floppy fully in drive A, light comes on and no "machine gun".

One of things we suppose.

489910 2006-10-14 19:14:00 If the bootdisk isnt A and there's no floppy in the drive, it shouldnt make any noise either. Speedy Gonzales (78)
