490694 2006-10-11 06:08:00 Hi, I've replaced my hard Drive with a 2nd hand 20gig Fujitsu. I installed my copy of ME, formatted and scanned; all was said to be OK, but on starup I'm stuck in Safe Mode. I consulted your faq's and the Help(start/help). Doing msconfig>selective startup and clearing ticks; but all to no avail.
One thing I am not clear about is(from the help file) right click on desktop>properties>click WEB tag and clear boxes....then; Item4 says. 'In the active desktop safe mode screen, click on Restore Active Desktop'.
I cannot find the 'active desktop safe mode screen' to click on. Some help would be greatly appreciated, thank Sarum

490695 2006-10-11 06:12:00 Just to be sure, does the desktop have the words "Safe Mode" in each corner? Failing to install video drivers after installing can produce a desktop that looks similar to Safe Mode as the computer is running on basic VGA drivers. Jen (38)
490696 2006-10-11 06:51:00 Jen thanks for your amazingly quick reply. To ask the question in the first place,I replaced the old hard drive and I can't remember seeing anything in the corners. I shall replace the 'new' hard drive in the morning and this evening see if I can find the mother board CD. Am I right in thinking that the VGA drivers may be on it. Don't answer that question; if it all works I shall not trouble you again - on this subject, but please accept my thanks in advance.......Sarum sarum (6222)
490697 2006-10-11 07:40:00 Windows install VGA drivers. If your "safe mode" desktop does not have the words Safe Mode in each corner, then installing the video drivers will help the appearance of the display and allow you to set the correct resolution and colour bit settings.

If you have a separate video card, then download appropriate drivers from the manufacturers website eg nvidia.com for nVidia graphic cards.

If you have onboard graphics then install the motherboard drivers. It is a good idea to install the motherboard drivers regardless so that you have full functionality of the board. You can use either the motherboard drivers on your CD or download newer ones from the manufacturers website.

490698 2006-10-11 19:45:00 Thankyou again, I couldn't find the mother board CD and I'm not in safe mode (nothing in the corners). But I'm now on the 'net with this hard drive; so I can down load drivers. Hoping that this works; I send my appreciation in advance............Sarum sarum (6222)
