490650 2006-10-10 22:34:00 I have a faulty pc that blue screens on the loading windows xp, i want to know if the ram could be faulty. i've done a google search and found a couple of free memory testers that run from dos but i dont know if they're actually any good.
From experience does anyone know of any good mem testing software that could help me?
Thanks very much :)

490651 2006-10-10 22:40:00 I like Memtest 86, comes with my motherboard in the BIOS  let it run for a long period of time, at least overnight, once is not enough.

here (http://www.memtest86.com/) is the site for it

490652 2006-10-10 22:40:00 I am glad you found first cousin Google. http://www.memtest86.com/ is the "real deal". Ideally, run it for 5 complete test loops and see if any faults are detected.

Be aware that the RAM has a small chance of being the cause even if Memtest isn't detecting it as faulty.

490654 2006-10-11 12:18:00 There's an old memory-testing util called CheckIt, which has an in-depth option that allows you to run it for a nominated number of cycles. If you set it to 10 cycles it will run all night. It is DOS-based so you need to run it from the command prompt startup option. I think it is still downloadable. Robin S_ (86)
