2015-08-27 01:07:00 | Went to restart my computer yesterday morning and nothing happened. The light showing the hard drive lit up for a few seconds then nothing. I have tried a Windows 10 bootdisk, Windows 7 disk that came with the new system, and a disk from the SSD, nothing. I just unplugged the monitor and I got a screen to come up that said Recovery Your PC/Device needs to be repaired The applicatoion or operating system couldn't be loaded because a reqired fire is missing or contains errors. File:\WINDOWS\system32\winload.exe Error code: 0xc000000e You'll need to use recovery tools. If you don't have any installation media (like a disc or USB device) contact your PC administrator or PC/ Device manufacturer. Press Enter to try again Press F8 for Startup Settings I pressed Enter and then Pressed F8 - nothing. I rebooted from a Windows 10 installation disc first it gives me a choice of installing Windows 10 or repair I chose repair and got to a screen that gives me 6 options System Restore , System Image Recovery, Command Prompt, UEFI Firmware Settings and Go back to the previous build. I have tried all of them except Command Prompt, non of them worked. Do I try and istall Windows 10 from the DVD? If I do that will I still have all my stuff or will I lose it? I am at a loss. What do I do now?

2015-08-27 03:09:00 | I didn't get lucky. I get an option to reset this PC - The drive where Windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again. I don't know how to unlock the drive. What about reinstalling Windows 10? If I do that will I keep all my stuff or will I have to start over?

2015-08-27 04:57:00 | Had the exact same thing the other day, in the end it was slave the HDD and copy data off, reinstall Windows 10 from fresh. BUT you can try this, ( from another Forum) Sometimes it works other times it doesn't. Start by booting the computer with the recovery media inserted. The computer should load the CD or USB. (You may have to change the BIOS boot order to boot the USB drive first.) Choose your language. Click Next You will now see Install in the center of your screen. On the lower left side you will see Repair your computer. Choose the repair option. You will have several options including: Refresh Your Computer Restore Your Computer Advanced Options Choose Advanced Options. Launch the command prompt Enter the following commands one at a time hitting Enter after each command. bootrec /scanos bootrec /rebuildbcd bootrec /fixmbr bootrec /fixboot Reboot computer after the final command finishes What about reinstalling Windows 10? If I do that will I keep all my stuff or will I have to start over? Windows wont do a repair install from booting the DVD/USB drive, you have to be in windows to do that - Completely pointless, bring back the old style XP where you could. :)

2015-08-27 20:25:00 | I did as you said. Everything worked well until I got to bootrec /fixboot. I got element not found. I then rebooted the computer and got to the Windows Setup screen. So should I just install Windows 10 again? Going through the steps it did find Windows on c:. So maybe if I reinstall Windows 10 I will be OK. If I am not mistaken most of the stuff I care about is in the cloud and I can reinstall all the other stuff - but it is a real pain in the ass. Has Microsoft come up with a simple solution since this seems to be a common problem? If you don't have 2 computers you are screwed in trying to fix it. Doing this on a smartphone would be really hard.

2015-08-27 21:25:00 | its possible the partition is no longer active. Have a read of www.sevenforums.com This is using either diskpart from the bootable DVD Command prompt or a third party partition program. Aslo another version of it peter.upfold.org.uk

2015-08-28 00:16:00 | I am posting this from what used to be a very expensive door stop. I took the chance and went ahead with an installation from the Windows 10 installation disc I downloaded. When I started it asked me for the Key code. I entered the only code I had - the one for Windows 7. Of course it said it was not valid. There was a button that said skip - I skipped. A message came up that said take out the disc I had and reboot. I followed that direction and it rebooted normally. So my doorstop is now a computer again. Thank all of you that make such a GREAT website possible. There is no one better in the world!!!!!
