| 1397941 | 2015-04-03 21:01:00 | Is there any Flysprays available these days that actually work? The ones Ive tried recently are so environmentally friendly they turn sandflies into blowflies. The reason I ask is last night swmbo cooked a delicious lamb roast and as the aroma of the cooking wafted through the house an invasion of 1,00,456,452,123 bloody flies invited themselves to dinner. Naturally war was declared, and as the flyspray only encouraged them, I had to resort to an old fashioned flyswat which was by far the most effective. I used to use a product called Ripcord which was very effective, but I dont know if its still available. Anyway, any suggestions? :D |

Similar to these www.bunnings.com.au you need to wear rubber or latex cloves when hanging them as they catch humans as well, and the sticky stuff is awful and hard to get off skin. On saying that theres a couple of flies "Playing" on top of my monitor. |

You think that is bad. When I was a kid we lived in a cardboard box and one day I counted 1,00,456,452,124 bloody flies inviting themselves to dinner.:lol: Ken :p |

I used to have 1,00,456,452,124 flies, but now have only 1. Seems as most of the original lot must have migrated to your place. Ask your swmbo to keep it up. |

| 1397945 | 2015-04-03 21:53:00 | Thanks Wainui, that Ripcord is the same stuff, same bottle even. Given that it actually used to work I felt sure it would have been banned, or the active ingredient removed at least. Actually, from memory, I think the active ingredients were used in sheep dip too. Anyway, $28 for 200ml seems fairly steep, but as long as it does the job it’s cheap. |

| 1397947 | 2015-04-03 22:22:00 | The low-irritant varieties are particularly useless for small flies. I even sent an email of complaint to one of the brands because the fly spray was soooo useless. They seemed surprised. :illogical Large blowflies, spiders, cockroaches etc are still easily killed with the spray, it is just the small flies. I have one of those electrified 'tennis racket' style fly swats. They are good when you can actually catch the little buggers.... but if you over-cook them (eg incinerate with sparks/smoke), then they give off a bad smell. |

They are not all the same. Myself I use and can thoroughly recommend robocan. I have seen 2 flies in my house this week, one upside down and twitching on the TV remote, and one buzzing around in the toilet when the window was open. I remember them both because any any fly at all in my house is an unusual occurrence since I got the dispenser about 3 years ago. I just use the cheapest brand refills, usually Expra, and they all seem just as effective despite the "natural pyrethrins" used as the active ingredient. The tipping point for me was one summer when I had flies in the house in unusually large numbers, so much so that the wooden beam running through the lounge was swarming with them for it's entire length. When I was a kid and we had flies at dinner time Mum would always spray some spray around and I hated it, would end up tasting the flyspry with dinner and getting a tingly weird sensation on my tongue. I was worried robocan would have the same effect but I never notice it at all. I keep a can of Raid fast kill in the kitchen as a backup for when the robocan runs out, that works too. It's gotten so that when I'm on the computer if I find myself swatting at a fly I go check the dispenser at the other end of the house and it's almost always empty. That's how unusual it is to see a fly when it's working. |

| 1397949 | 2015-04-03 22:53:00 | i've noticed a bit of a change in the way flysprays seam to work. its not so much of a rapid knockdown. i recognize some of the ingredients and they tend to work slowly. i think the idea behind it is for the spray to weaken the flies and let nature kill it. the reason behind this is less chem used (eco) but also so the insects don't get resistant to the products. |

| 1397950 | 2015-04-03 23:03:00 | Get the full strength concentrate Ripcord from RD1 or Wrighties. Garden centres sell only the watered down stuff. Spray the house inside (while your wife is out) at the beginning of summer and you will have no flies for at least six months. It contains synthetic pyrethrum. | Richard (739) | ||
