You have never been allows to pass over the speed limit. Well not in my 25 years of driving. You maybe older then me so maybe things were different. Unless of course your comment was sarcastic |

2015-04-02 23:10:00 | I was just gobsmacked.............. at how this could work really.............. I have never known a car not to get over the speed limit to pass another car........... if they are doing the speed limit............... then lol you cant pass legally, but really when does that happen? and what does age have to do with it? Maybe i need to re read the latest rode code book we have.......... got it last year so im presuming it will be up to date. I do over take things when needed. but do find a lot of the time im doing the speed limit and things pass me like im standing still........:(

2015-04-02 23:41:00 | years ago there was an understanding that you could break the speed limit while overtaking so you where not on the wrong side of the road for to long, provided you slowed back down to legal speed after overtaking. however that 'policy' was removed many years ago now, simply because it become one big drag strip. if they are doing legal limit then you cannot legally overtake and why would you want to unless your going to be speeding all the time. a part of bad driving culture is to overtake because they don't want to be behind anyone. i see it regularly from the nut jobs. they harass and bully cars until they can overtake and then they drive the same speed (or sometimes slower) than the car they just overtook. its just the childish attitude of "i don't want to be behind ..... i have to pass, i have to pass, i have to pass......"

2015-04-03 01:11:00 | I've had to do 150 to overtake 2 trucks on some country roads. Safe as long as its a straight road and visibility is fine. | sahilcc7 (15483) | |
2015-04-03 03:22:00 | I've had to do 150 to overtake 2 trucks on some country roads. Safe as long as its a straight road and visibility is fine. That's the thing, you didn't have to at all. You just wanted to. Safe, maybe. Legal, no. If you have to speed to get past then you stay behind or don't complain if you get a ticket. Maybe it's frustrating for some people to be stuck behind trucks, but myself I generally don't care. On a short trip it doesn't matter and on a long trip there will always be another chance to get past. Especially when I'm driving a work vehicle and being paid for my time, slow me down as much as you like :) Our work has GPS tracking on all our vehicles and a strict no speeding policy enforced by daily speed reports from the GPS system. The amount of people who try to justify speeding because they "needed" to overtake something is ridiculous. The other one is apparently it's too dangerous to drive around watching your speedo and therefore impossible to stay at the speed limit or below. Total Bollocks, anyone who really can't keep an eye on their speed safely while driving shouldn't have a license. Sit back, relax, engage "I'm in no rush cruise mode" and driving is much less stressful and safer. There's no need to speed to pass someone just because they are a few km's under the limit and there's not enough road, just bide your time and wait for an opportunity.

2015-04-03 04:11:00 | The question has already been answered, But: I have never known a car not to get over the speed limit to pass another car........... if they are doing the speed limit............... then lol you cant pass legally, but really when does that happen? If the car in front is doing the speed limit, then a person over taking would be breaking the law by going over the limit. End of story. So the question needs to be asked--- If everyone is doing the speed limit, WHY the do you need to over take or get in front of the other person ? Trying to use the excuse because you don't like being behind someone simply wont cut it, just because some do go over the limit while passing doesn't make it legal. Lets for a moment take a scenario --- you speed and break the law to get past someone, a couple of KM's up the road, a car pulls out and hits you, you or people in your car are killed or injured -- The car you passed a while back now stops to assist a few minutes later --- Was it worth the over taking, since people are now dead or injured in your car ???? Actually saw earlier this week, some little dick over taking everyone in a 50km area, traffic was doing 50 or there about, it was up by wingate station -- Under the bridge was a police check point, guess who was getting grilled by the cops while they waved every one else on. Several people tooted as they went past.

2015-04-03 06:36:00 | If the traffic is doing the speed limit im ok with that and have no need to pass............. its the people who drive at 80kms on the open road i cant cope with. I generally tootle along at the speed limit just fine............ or if the conditions are poor, i slow down a bit and drive at safe speeds. and if i hold traffic up for any reason, i will pull over and let them pass.............

2015-04-03 07:34:00 | A frustration I used to have, back when they signposted speed camera areas, was making the start of a passing lane a speed camera zone. Another frustration is to get a passing lane which then, madeningly, and dangerously, gets a posted speed reduction to 80km for a turn... just at the point when people will be wanting to go faster. Why have a turn in a passing lane? It's madness.
