1398797 2015-04-21 00:22:00 But there must be someone who will receive the $1M and probably a lucky kiwi.....

Nope, sold from 1 non-kiwi to another
:-(

All the house sales down my st have been to non kiwi's .
I'd love a $1M offer on my home, then I'll retire .My sections bigger than that $1M Browns Bay section.

And this is why:

"A New Zealand-based website marketing New Zealand homes to the Chinese is reaching around 22 million people every year."
www.3news.co.nz

"A big marketing drive is on to draw more Chinese people to New Zealand real estate and the businesswoman behind it expects a huge upswing in investment and development, particularly from Canton."
www.nzherald.co.nz

To Key, who is worth around $50 million, ordinary 3 bedroom houses that cost 1 Million up in Auckland are of no real concern to him which is why the headline referenced by ruup, says "Akl house market not over-valued - Key" After all that is just pocket money to him.....................

Edit: and of course NZ real estate agents just love these huge prices and foreign buyers with the ready cash.

What beats me prefect is I wouldn't live in Auckland if the houses were free.

Mind you, I wouldn't live in Wellington, London, Melbourne or Sydney either. Brisbane maybe. :)

Yes a lot of non-Aklders have that attitude.
And a lot haven't been there either...I saw that a lot when I was down South.

Yes it has expensive houses.
Yes it has crap traffic.

Apart from that though it is far better.
Rates are better.
Prices are better - petrol, groceries, clothing all sorts....I guess because there are growers selling here, indian and chinese clothes shops dirt cheap, more competition etc.

Petrol down Swanson Rd went up again yesterday, Don Bucks Rd though had a decrease....

Some out of Auckland places are OK I guess, some of the bigger ones anyway, but smaller places? Meh.

Even Napier.....lacking in a few things I've noticed.

And medical care....yep, we have some bad places here, but at least there is some choice. We were given that choice yesterday, husband to have another test and we picked where and who.

Auckland has a shortage of houses - blame whoever you like, and migrants do tend to hang out here more than other places.
That and NZs policy of allowing overseas based buyers to freely own whatever they want to buy, well....it all contributes to the price madness.

Unfortunately , Ak is where most of the jobs are. Sure we could move out of Ak & join the ranks
of the unemployed & unemployable in small towns .
:)

Dont think for a moment that these outrageous prices wont spread to the rest of the country.....
....and will mean most of our farms will be owned by foreigners with a generation, as they will be the only ones willing & able to pay the high prices.

1398805 2015-04-22 02:02:00 So pleased we own our house outright in Nelson, as I haven't worked since mid Jan.

We looked at our finances and decided I could quit my job in Christchurch and have the summer off, we live extremely cheaply and don't miss out on anything. I make or repair most things we have, only 1 car, grow our own veg and fruit, have chickens for eggs and barter the left overs with friends and neighbours. There is no way we could do this at Auckland prices.
