1398777 2015-04-19 23:10:00 The Christchurch rebuild is a disgrace and a sad indictment of how our country is run.

Compare our efforts to Japans.

For those who cant remember, here is a brief outline of Japans problems thanks to Wiki.

“On 10 March 2015, a Japanese National Police Agency report confirmed 15,891 deaths,[23] 6,152 injured,[24] and 2,584 people missing[25] across twenty prefectures, as well as 228,863 people living away from their home in either temporary housing or due to permanent relocation.[26] A February 10, 2014 agency report listed 127,290 buildings totally collapsed, with a further 272,788 buildings 'half collapsed', and another 747,989 buildings partially damaged.[27] The earthquake and tsunami also caused extensive and severe structural damage in north-eastern Japan, including heavy damage to roads and railways as well as fires in many areas, and a dam collapse.[18][28] Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan said, "In the 65 years after the end of World War II, this is the toughest and the most difficult crisis for Japan."[29] Around 4.4 million households in northeastern Japan were left without electricity and 1.5 million without water.[30]”

Ok, makes Christchurch look pretty insignificant by comparison, but here is the after and 2 year time-lapse photos of the same areas. Take a look at THIS (www.theatlantic.com). (click on the then photo to show the now)

Whilst an army of useless handwringers have been running around Christchurch swapping stickers to one of a different colour, the Japanese have been doing something useful. And don’t forget we are now another two years down the track from when the last photos were taken so the Jap’s will have probably completely tidied up by now.

Also, having seen the devastation caused by floods, fires and cyclones in Australia and the manner and time taken for restoration, I can only say our Christchurch efforts are somewhat less than pathetic.

1398778 2015-04-19 23:20:00 This government have been so lucky that these earthquakes happened so that they could pretend to have kick started the economy, without them it would have fallen a long time ago .

Thats the really scary thing, our economy relies on the ChCh rebuild .

NZ is broke, so dont compare NZ to Japan . We dont have the money to spend .

1398779 2015-04-19 23:25:00 You have to live there to see the mess created by Grunter Brownlee and Hekia Parata, yes schools needed to to be closed but not the way she did it with an Iron fist. As an ex tradie I know exactly what and how it should happen. When you see 80+ year olds still living in sheds and garages and people still using portaloos despite Grunter saying everyone over 80 will be sorted first, yeah right.

Then you have said Minister breaking airport rules and awarding the biggest contract in NZ to Fletchers who are making their own rules as in.

We don't like the site safe program despite helping to create it years ago so we are making our own and if you want to work on our sites you have to have that as well.
Oh we only buy materials from Carters (who we own) even if it means sending tradies halfway across the city.
Oh we will only buy steel from Fletcher steel even if it means sending tradies halfway across the city.
Oh you disagree with our assessors tough there is no recourse if you want to be paid out we are in charge.

This government have been so lucky that these earthquakes happened so that they could pretend to have kick started the economy, without them it would have fallen a long time ago. Key has been able to make several excellent photo calls, he tried the same thing in Northland and we all know what happened there, the people didn't vote Winston because he will get them help but because they are fed up with empty promises from his Holiness Kim John Key Dictator in charge.

Labour probably wouldn't have been any better but hell they could hardly be worse either, where is the surplus I have been hearing is coming for the last 5 years, we have a rock star economy supposedly but only in the dear leaders inflated head.

If you really think the government are doing everything for Christchurch still, beware the sand doesn't get in your ears from having your head buried for so long.

Gotta admit if i owned Fletchers i would do exactly the same thing.

Translated it goes like this Billy.

Two thieves plan a heist which they complete successfully.

One of the thieves just happens to be the Police Commissioner’s son, Fletcher, who gets wheeze that the police are onto them.

Arrangements are made for the Police Commissioners son to dob in his fellow accomplice and receive immunity from prosecution for his trouble.

This is how third world countries like New Zealand operate now. :groan:
