1398767 2015-04-19 10:06:00 Surely you joke, I have been in Christchurch for the last three years working on the rebuild and you think the government are doing well. Remove the blinkers they are failing amazingly down there. We moved back in the end just couldn't put up with the incompetence any longer. So yes we have been there where were you? gary67 (56)

I haven't been there, but friends have. They all tell me that what you see on TV is just the worst of it, what they don't show are the thousands of homes hardly even affected. But that wouldn't sell the news would it.

As for their success or failure - if a record 5000 apprentices account for nothing then you would have to be a pretty hard person to please. As you well know, it take about 4 years to train an apprentice, a year or 2 to get people to decide to train, so it's not surprising to those who think logically that the real rebuild is only just about to begin. You can't just take thousands of tradies to Christchurch out of thin air as much as some people would have you think.

1398769 2015-04-19 21:02:00 You have to live there to see the mess created by Grunter Brownlee and Hekia Parata, yes schools needed to to be closed but not the way she did it with an Iron fist. As an ex tradie I know exactly what and how it should happen. When you see 80+ year olds still living in sheds and garages and people still using portaloos despite Grunter saying everyone over 80 will be sorted first, yeah right.

Then you have said Minister breaking airport rules and awarding the biggest contract in NZ to Fletchers who are making their own rules as in.

We don't like the site safe program despite helping to create it years ago so we are making our own and if you want to work on our sites you have to have that as well.
Oh we only buy materials from Carters (who we own) even if it means sending tradies halfway across the city.
Oh we will only buy steel from Fletcher steel even if it means sending tradies halfway across the city.
Oh you disagree with our assessors tough there is no recourse if you want to be paid out we are in charge.

This government have been so lucky that these earthquakes happened so that they could pretend to have kick started the economy, without them it would have fallen a long time ago. Key has been able to make several excellent photo calls, he tried the same thing in Northland and we all know what happened there, the people didn't vote Winston because he will get them help but because they are fed up with empty promises from his Holiness Kim John Key Dictator in charge.

Labour probably wouldn't have been any better but hell they could hardly be worse either, where is the surplus I have been hearing is coming for the last 5 years, we have a rock star economy supposedly but only in the dear leaders inflated head.

If you really think the government are doing everything for Christchurch still, beware the sand doesn't get in your ears from having your head buried for so long.

Not the Government but Fletchers who have been awarded everything on a plate so long as they keep the government happy

I don't know about that, but there has been a lot of shenanigans going on with regards to directing work in some quarters.
