1483281 2022-01-04 04:25:00 For, it seems, years now, I have constantly seen adverts amongst my browsing, even for websites such as
the Washington Post or The Guardian. They seem so believable and inviting, such as that these telescopes
and attachments can give incredible magnification, etc, plus they tend to come coupled with highly regarded
sites such as the ones I have just mentioned.

Just within the last hour I have seen two of such adverts displayed within my browser page on Edge.
Have reported both - will they take action do you think? Perhaps I have been a bit slow? .. but one does
start to get used to these bizarre claims and them being omni-present! Duh - will I win through?

1483282 2022-01-04 04:48:00 With Ublock origin addon installed I don't see ads gary67 (56)
1483283 2022-01-04 20:15:00 Thats google for ya, doesn't matter what you look at soon after you will see ads for similar, all because Google is being nosiey. wainuitech (129)
1483284 2022-01-04 21:16:00 I've looked at a couple of those adds myself, but if they don't make the actual magnification obvious or easily found I just close them.
It's just a sad fact of humanity that the boundary between outright scams and advertising for legitimate products doesn't really exist and there have always been a lot of people willing to exploit the gullible.

"Thousands of New Zealanders are going mad for [insert random rubbish product] check it out before it's banned"

Yeah right.

1483285 2022-01-04 22:43:00 Just use a decent browser and uBlockOrigin extension and you won't see any of this rubbish.

Decent browser = Firefox or Chrome.

1483286 2022-01-05 00:19:00 Ads, what ads? I thought everyone ran Ublock now....Go install it. piroska (17583)
1483287 2022-01-06 04:16:00 I've run Adblock plus for many years, and it still mostly seems OK, is it worth switching to Ublock instead? Chikara (5139)
1483288 2022-01-06 06:46:00 AdblockPlus allows some paid adverts through, there is an option to turn it off but not sure where anymore. Try right clicking the icon and look for options to switch off white listed adverts. zqwerty (97)
1483289 2022-01-06 06:49:00 Right...i don't mind allowing some ads through to support free sites I like...Adblock plus has generally been pretty good with what it blocks vs what it lets through. But I head a lot of people recommending Ublock Origin these days. I might give it a try, just to see how it compares. Chikara (5139)
1483290 2022-01-06 21:12:00 I've used Ublock Origin for ages now on multiple browsers, I used to use AdblockPlus but stopped because of the paid White List Issue which was semi-covered up by the Authors of the Extension, in other words they were getting money from advertisers to allow certain adds through the blocker if payment was made by the advertising party.

However the secret White Listed ads could still be stopped by the user if a certain option was unticked.
