| 1483240 | 2021-12-31 18:48:00 | SWMBO has been lent a radio and likes to have it on all day but is becoming frustrated as she has to retune it every so often as it drifts off the (FM) station. The person who she borrowed the radio off had it tuned permanently to the National programme. Now SWMBO has it on Magic all the time. I can't see why that would make any difference. Any ideas why it is drifting and is there anything that can be done about it? Your help is appreciated. Thank you. |

When I put it on The Sound (93.70) I lose the signal if I move off my chair. I did Google this a while ago but couldn't get my head around WHY this happens, but it's a thing. There's likely nothing wrong with the radio, it's about frequencies and signal anomolies apparently. |

The optimum tuning point for FM radio stations is dead on the center frequency which is hard to find with AFC on. The phase lock loop circuitry needs to be off when you are looking for the center point ie AFC off, then back on once you are satisfied with your tuning. Depending on what indicators are available you are looking for a combination of strongest signal and best sound before turning AFC on. National is probably on AM so not so critical as far as tuning goes. Signal strength is important if you are using FM Stereo, the stronger the better so extend the FM telescopic aerial. Rotating the radio set may have an effect on the quality as well in low signal strength areas, more noticeable on AM though, which is affected by the ferrite rod aerial positioning. Lastly, flat or "on their last legs" batteries may also cause this de-tuning annoyance especially with the sound volume turned up. |

Magic can be streamed on a PC or on a smartphone using the ROVA app. It uses some data but will never drift. Myself I linked Rova to my Alexa app and use my echo devices to stream the radio - the rock in my case. |
