As if they wouldn't do the exact same thing! Governments always waste money left right and centre on contractors, consultants, meetings, etc, doesn't matter which party...

A good example of this is the American way.... "They get the best (or worst) politicians that money can buy"

A fine example currently is Joe Manchin (D) who in one case, blocked a fair bit of the infrastucture bill that Biden presented. He was against trying to reduce coal useage to try and reduce the carbon output and the damage coal is doing to our air. Turns out his family own coal mines and he gets millions in dividends from them. Corrupt bastard!
