1483015 2021-12-20 23:18:00 SWMBO has shown interest in a holiday in Fiji so I thought that there might be a few people here who have been there recently.

Did you enjoy your holiday, what can we expect and is there anything that we should not miss?

Thank you for your input.:thanks

1483016 2021-12-20 23:32:00 Depends what you're after and what your budget is. Over the last 20 years I've been 3 times......
first to Treasure island. Relatively family friendly island. Not the dearest or cheapest. This was quite a while ago.
2nd Matamanoa. This was an adult only island (no kids), but at the time, had just changed ownership and the staff seemed quite unhappy.
Last Stayed on Denerau at the Hilton. That was quite nice as well. Good service.

1483017 2021-12-21 00:11:00 Yes! 2005 me thinks. Went to a mid-range resort on Coral Coast, Hideaway Resort.

It was okay. I naively expected white sand and tourquise water, and oh how wrong was I. But that expectation was my bad so no blame there.

The resort was good, they catered well for kids and the food and lodgings was as expected from a mid-range price-wise resort. Not great, but not bad either. Think Cobb & Co.

The lodgings were okay too, but the air con/ heat pump stood no chance and just leaked water the whole time.

What was great, which probably won't interest you, is the babysitting service. For something like $3 per hour someone will sit in the bure with the kids while they sleep while you go to ther bar and play pool and drink 375 Fiji Bitter's.

I found the service level between the day and evening quite spectacular. During the day the women run the place, and some seem to have a real chip on their shoulders and didn't want to be there. Then about 5pm each evening all the women would leave and guys would take over for the night, and they had a completely different approach. I'm guessing it's a cultural thing.

I would go back, but ONLY if I could afford an adults-only, uber-nice and expensive resort on one of the islands off the coast, with the white sand and blue water.

Interesting, so Matamanoa has no beach to speak of, Treasure Island was better. Denarau at those resorts were better. Quite coral based around there.

Maye turtle island etc would be much better, but that's way $$$

1483019 2021-12-21 04:27:00 People I know who went said it was expensive.

I've only been to Bali.
Which is apparently almost empty of tourists lately.

1483020 2021-12-21 04:49:00 Depends how you define expensive.

I mean I know a place in Queenstown for $2k a night.

And Napier for $500 a night

1483021 2021-12-21 21:12:00 Thank you for all your input. Most appreciated.

I did wonder about the power. Is it the same as ours? 240v? And what about the plugs - are they the same? SWMBO will want to take her hair dryer and I will have my electric razor.
