1482973 2021-12-18 18:41:00 I live on a very busy road with many noisy cars and motorbikes but the noisiest are the ones that drive past with their loud music (?) blaring. I think that they must have a speaker under the bonnet as I don't think they would be able to stand that sort of volume inside the car.:horrified

But what I do wonder about are the ones that drive past at three in the morning.:illogical Firstly I wonder why they are driving around at that time of the morning (why aren't they at home in their beds?) and secondly why do they need to make all that noise?

And is making that much noise legal? Particularly that early? I think that the cops could have a field day around here but I hardly ever see them.

So the solution might be to keep the doors and windows closed but it's a bit too warm to do that, besides it becomes a bit too stuffy all closed up.

I can't afford to move - I'm on the pension - so it seems that I will have to put up with it. Thankfully there are not too many of them.

Does anyone else have these noise makers drive past their place or is it just here in Auckland?

1482974 2021-12-18 18:57:00 Don't have that problem here because they have realised that with only one road into and out of town they can't get away. The worst ones though are the Fish cars, you know the type accelerate hard and then go 'Fish'. Such a stupid idea. gary67 (56)
1482975 2021-12-18 19:27:00 They're a disease that needs to be cut out and destroyed.

I've seen a car driving around Lower Hutt that's got speakers attached to the outside so we get to hear the 'call to prayer' music as he drives around. The worst part is he can't hear what I say to him, though I'm sure he gets the gist of it.

Yes, I have heard them as well and I wonder why they do it? Apparently it's called "blow back" but I don't know why. They rev up their motor and then take their foot off then (as you say) "fish". And what's the point? Just to make a noise? I wonder at the intelligence.:annoyed:

1482977 2021-12-18 21:03:00 "Fish" I think that's the turbo operating, from full acceleration to fast slowing down (shut down of the turbo).

As for the noisy cars, The Wizard of Christchurch who is a wise man says that conventional thinking holds that sky-scrapers are mankind putting phallic symbols into the sky from earth but he says that is not the case it is actually mankind sh!tting into space and adding to this, undeveloped immature young men love the sounds of noisy cars and motor-cycles, this is the sound of them farting into space, to assert themselves and impress upon others of their existence LOL.

Yes, I think you are correct . They are not very confident and need to make their mark . But I wonder what sort of satisfaction they get from their actions? Satisfaction would be the people they annoy yelling, "Shut up!" then they would know that their actions were having an effect but they speed past that fast that they would not see or hear the annoyed residents . So what's the point?

1482979 2021-12-18 22:18:00 The sound of their naughty power trip blasting out crap all over the rest of us who they know are forced to listen, they are like spoiled over-indulged children showing off because they want to be noticed and paid attention to in the world even if they are not lauded and actually frowned upon it is better than not being noticed at all; so, so, juvenile.

I may sound annoyed and over-involved but just like you I have a pet hate car that often comes noisily through our cul-de-sac disturbing everyone, they did get a new exhaust after complaints but it is still noisy. So annoying.

1482980 2021-12-18 22:47:00 I seem to recall there was a spate of ACC claims for "industrial deafness" for a while after subwoofers became common until they caught on what was causing it and toughened up the process. Could be an urban legend though.

I love loud music and can see the value in a well set up subwoofer but what a lot of people do doesn't seem to have anything to do with enjoying music and everything to do with showing off. When they go past and you can hear the car panels rattling it's hard to imagine anyone thinks the music sounds good like that.
Maybe they are just addicted to bass.

My neighbourhood had a couple years of that carry on until that generation grew up and moved away, oh and a couple of local dealers were shut down.

To me it's the same as people on Harleys or driving V8s, both of which can be set up to be surprisingly quiet if you want to, who have to roar through the streets so people on the other side of town can hear them. There are noise laws that never seem to apply to certain types of sound. Some even have a second set of mufflers to they can swap them on to get a warrant.

In the boot.

And yes, right this moment next door have a car in drive blasting noise over the fence at us.
I shall go over at 11pm tonight if it's still going, my mum is still not well.
