| 1482819 | 2021-12-13 00:38:00 | Just received a letter from NZTA about renewing my driving licence and it states that I need a medical certificate from a health practitioner. This could be your doctor, a registered nurse, a nurse practitioner or a specialist if appropriate. No problem, I rang my local medical centre but oh, no ! I need to see a nurse AND a doctor at a cost of $80 and the soonest appointment is 6 weeks. I protested that the letter clearly stated that a registered nurse was all that was required, not both a nurse and a doctor. Made no difference - they are all gods down there. Anyone else had similar experiences and what did you do about it? Suck it up or rebel ?? |

Gone is having a GP who knows you and cares - these days they're a factory to get you through as soon as possible and you'll be seen by whomever we damn well tell you! |

| 1482823 | 2021-12-13 06:58:00 | WOW, $150 / 15 mins consultation! Which are are you in? Do you guys think that the PHO (Primary Health Organisation) is fair? Doctors charge their patients according to where they live, and if you are not registered with them, they charge you much more! And, (to be verified) once you are registered with the doctor, he gets paid monthly by the Govt, regardless of whether you go to see the doctor or not! Not sure that's true of not, but, if it's true, I think only doctors gain in the PHO system. Maybe someone here can confirm that? |

That's exactly how it was with me and I doubled it up on a routine GP visit for an new prescription. All up, $18.50 with an apology that the price had increased by $1. But after 80, you have to go through the hoops every two years because everyone knows we go wonky after 79 years old. |

All comes from deterioration as a result of a broken and dislocated neck from 1978. As the doctors predicted at the time it has come back to bite me. S**t happens! Ken :( :) |

| 1482826 | 2021-12-13 08:29:00 | It's a wise man who knows when to quit. Having a SWMBO who can drive is a distinct asset. For those of us who are on our own for whatever reason, it is a case of wondering what else they can take off us before the bell tolls. They tell us that independence to get around is a privilege, not a right, even if we have worked a lifetime to maintain it. | Blue Druid (4480) | ||

Anyone else had similar experiences and what did you do about it? Suck it up or rebel ??Rebel. They suddenly decided (after I became her carer) that my mum had to be demented. Just because of her age (89) , or pissed off I was carer or something. Her license wasn't even due for renewal she had a year to go. But they said she needed either a road test or dementia test or both. She had previously done one of those voluntary are you ok driving checked and passed, this was to be a more official one.\ She decided to do it anyway.. We got form for road test eventually.....but nurses insisted she come in to get it signed which was needed before she could do the damn test. I went along, nurses refused to allow me with her, despite big signs on wall stating her rights to a support person and physically dragged her into the room and shut door. (****ing bitches) I went along to counter to fill out complaint form, they let her back out saying she was too upset to do it then. No kidding. Complaint went nowhere, neither with further complaining to health bodies and aged care bullying dept ; they rule, shut up more or less was the response. She is old but as yet is not demented. So she changed docs. She still has license but since sold her car anyway several months later, so it's all irrelevant. New doc has no interest in doing dementia tests. And yes some charge heaps for the privileged of being "checked", some don't. Its meant to be a quick are you healthy, more or less as in physically able to drive eyesight ok and not drooling is all. Get a new doctor. |
