1480323 2021-09-06 22:36:00 Hi folks.

I have just purchased Office 2019 to replace Office 2013.

Do I need to uninstall v2013 before installing v2019? I have read various opinions but thought I would just check with you guys, as I do not want to lose any settings , contacts etc in the process.

TIA
Smithie

1480324 2021-09-06 23:01:00 Is the office you got Office 2019 OR Office 365 ?? While they are basically the same product they are also different.

From memory Office 2019 asks to remove an older version, if you say no there can be clashes between the two. So unless there's some reason to keep 2013 - I'd uninstall it.

Office 365 is similar, having two versions can cause problems. Seen it happen multiple times that someone installs a newer version and documents still want to open in the older.

1480325 2021-09-06 23:46:00 Thanks Wainui.

It is Office 2019 not 365. By uninstalling 2013, I assume I wont lose any contact lists or settings etc in the process.

Smithie "Shouldn't Do" BUT like anything always pays to make backups 1st. Easier to spend a few minutes making a backup ( if not already doing so) than for some reason losing everything then saying I knew I should have ---- ;)

1480328 2021-09-07 02:18:00 Alternative way..

install 2019 over the top, leaving 2013. This will make outlook 2019 the default, keeping settings contacts email etc.
Then uninstall 2013
Then do a quick repair option on 2019 (just in case)

I took Wainui's advice and deleted 2013 first and then installed 2019. It went in without a hitch.:clap:clap

It keeps your Outlook settings, contacts, emails, etc?

You don't need to do a fresh setup of Outlook?

You don't need to do a fresh setup of Outlook? You usually have to re-enter the account details (but not always - sometimes it will pick it up, sometimes it wont) . If you are using a .pst file the new install should pick up the .pst file automatically if its in the default location. If using IMAP, then its syncing with the online, so any thing online should transfer over. Normally I make a backup of the contacts in case they don't come over.

My install kept Outlook settings, contacts, emails etc so I didn't need to do a fresh setup.
