1482829 2021-12-13 08:48:00 It's a wise man who knows when to quit. Having a SWMBO who can drive is a distinct asset. For those of us who are on our own for whatever reason, it is a case of wondering what else they can take off us before the bell tolls. They tell us that independence to get around is a privilege, not a right, even if we have worked a lifetime to maintain it.

I bought a second hand mobility scooter a couple of months ago. Swore that I wouldn't ever ride one but it has made a big difference to my life. I chuck my camera in the bag and off I go to the park or ride on some of the many concrete cycle tracks around home. I still walk about half a Km around 6am first each day.
Such is life. At the beginning of the year I could walk 4K no problems.

Named my scooter "Mobi McMobiface"

1482832 2021-12-13 17:28:00 I need to renew my licence in Jan, thankfully for now I don't need to worry about the age thing. With no licence living rurally would be very difficult. gary67 (56)

Living rurally, you may never get caught.

1482834 2021-12-13 22:50:00 Kenj, at one stage of my working life I used to repair and build Mobility scooter and wheelchair controllers. They are fun to ride around in, although I did not do this except to check a faulty controller, a lot of people in the factory had their main job of just riding round on scooters and wheelchairs giving each unit a checkover for about 15 minutes each controller.

They would ride around the car park and had to take the wheelchairs through a set of obstacles and driving routines to make sure they were up to scratch before export to the rest of the world, we were making/assembling hundreds a week so plenty of activity in the car park all day, including Saturday mornings, sometimes Sundays.

Nah. The cops go rural for a spot of R & R and some easy pickings where the only place to pull over is in a drainage ditch. Then they can get you for that, too. [Failure to stop or careless use; take your pick.] Gotta keep the ticket count up some way.

Everyone referred me back to Health and Disability complaints who didn't give a ****.
