1480204 2021-09-02 06:17:00 My Brother Laser was out of warranty by the time the original toners ran out so just use high capacity generics now gary67 (56)

The figures quoted in Toner specs are only estimates.

I print a lot. So it matters to me.
My brother doesn't, he's never had any issues with his ink disappearing either, or more to the point, drying out.

Some of us couldn't afford to print at that cost. And of course it's an estimate, the 5% coverage thing, toner or ink, we know that!

1480206 2021-09-03 08:58:00 I gave up on inkjets for the reasons Wainui mentions. I print a few pages every couple of months on average. Current laser printer is on it's second toner cartridge and I've owned it for 5 years.
I'm sure for people who print a lot it's different but for me....

What happened with my last inkjet, I'd go to print and one colour would be out, so I'd buy a new set of cartridges (it had 6) and just replace the empty one, fart around a bit changing cartridges, do a head clean, get my print to work, about 50% of the time run out of another colour in the process (which is why I always bought all 6). Ok great, pages printed, all sorted. A couple months later repeat the whole process. I swear I was getting about 6 pages out of a cartridge on average. Tried genuine (over $80 a set) and after market various brands, never made any difference. Threw away a perfectly functional inkjet after I had the laser for the first 3 years.

1480207 2021-09-03 23:51:00 I have two printers at home. A Brother HL2150N laser which mostly has used paper in it for proof printing and a Canon TS8160 inkjet which gets use most days of the week but usually only 1 or 2 pages. So far after 18 months it's still good and has never needed a head clean compared to my last Canon TS9060 that was forever needing a head clean. Sent it to the recycle station when the heads died and would have cost more than the printer to replace. It was only about 2 years old.
Next time it will be an Epson Inktank most likely.

1480208 2021-09-04 00:29:00 Just had a look and I see that Brother NZ does sell a form of inktank printer here www.noelleeming.co.nz

This may be worth a look at as they seem to do duplex printing . I see overseas that Brother do sell a real inktank printer with refill bottles but not here.
