1479414 2021-08-21 08:55:00 Have a read: answers.microsoft.com

Its caused by Damaged or missing Microsoft Visual C++ runtime library files.

Was the original a video someone made up privately or one that was downloaded from someplace ?

Made up privately, but wait, there's more.

1479415 2021-08-21 22:21:00 Made up privately, but wait, there's more. Oh Bugger.. If it were not private theres a chance of finding it someplace.

Previous comment -- Only Audio --- was going to capture it on Ashampoo and post a link to get the result. But thought hmmmmm Sure you said it was a Video ?

Several online ( and other players that do play .swf) all said similar -- Either corrupted or not a valid .swf file :(

Just a thought -- The folder the original is in, does it have other files, some files need everything, not just the swf file.

1479416 2021-08-22 00:13:00 Even though I can play .swf files on my computer already, I can't play that file you uploaded, used VLC which works on the .swf files already on my computer, won't play yours however. zqwerty (97)
1479417 2021-08-22 00:29:00 A mate, who is still running Win10, has a number of old .swf Flash Video’s which he would like to save in another format.

He can play them fine on his computer, using “Flash Movie Player”, but nothing we can find, including On Line Cloud converters, can convert them to anything else.

So, our thinking was to play them on his computer and screen record them.

If the files play ok on W10, then use the built in (on W10) screen recorder. It's there for recording game play. I've used it, and it works well.

1479418 2021-08-22 01:36:00 Thanks for that link Dave but looking at the capabilities they promote it can change files to swf but not from swf.

Well it does have an extraction tool!
SWFExtract Allows to extract Movieclips, Sounds, Images etc. from SWF files

1479419 2021-08-22 05:45:00 What a mission but here’s an update.

Wainui: Yes it is definitely a Video and I doubt it is corrupted because it plays as it should on both PotPlayer and Flash Movie Player but not VLC. There are three more and they are the same.

They are in the Video Folder along with lord knows how many others of various breeding.

Zqwerty: Well that is interesting because I have never got VLC to play a swf file, be it on Windows or Linux Mint. Weird.

Rumpty: I can’t find a Screen Recorder on Win10. I found a Steps Recorder but that doesn’t look like it’s what we’re looking for but I stand to be corrected.

Dave: I’ll take another look and see if I can work out how to extract the Video and Audio as one.

In the meantime I googled for a screen recorder and from the ratings OBS Studio was No.1 so I installed that. Well it ain’t straight forward but I managed to get a mkv file which plays the Music along with the Video but I’ll need some practise and have to do so editing to make it acceptable.
There is also a small loss of quality.

Anyway, HERE (www.dropbox.com) is the work in progress for those interested. :groan:
